Depressed during preop.

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm am new to this, well relatively, so please be nice. I can't help but feel so depressed during this pre op liquid diet ... I have a 2year old son, no energy.... Sometimes it feels like I wish I could sleep the days away this week. My surgery is tomorrow however it's not til 12 in the afternoon. Everyone is eating "normal" around me and I am barely eating. I keep trying to have the things I'm allowed but I don't even want it . I try forcing myself but I'm just not thrilled. Sometimes I just feel like why do I have to go through this? Why am I the one that has this challenge? I am altering my natural body to lose weight. It just sucks. I know im grateful to be approved , and I sure know people have it worse than me but I can't help but feel sad. I'm having a really bad day. Has anyone else felt like this? Granted I have had days of feeling excited, nervous, and happy about getting VSG. It's like a new emotion every week .

Thanks for listening

Frankie

I do not have a pre-op diet. I am going to ask why tomorrow but I can imagine it sucks. Even though it is for a good reason it is still hard to feel like you are so hungry. I think it is probably a normal feeling. The good thing is your surgery will be all over tomorrow. Just keep that in the back of your mind so you can get through the day. Best of luck to you tomorrow.

Also my surgery is one week after yours.

The pre - op diet was THE hardest time for me!! If you can, focus on lots of Water, and how wonderful you will feel soon!! Really soon if your surgery is tomorrow. Fantastic job getting this far! You'll be doing the happy dance in no time.

You're almost there! Try to focus on how much energy you'll have to take care of your beautiful baby boy after you've lost weight! Everything serves a purpose. You're doing great. Hang in there.

I had a couple of breakdowns during the pre-op diet. It was hard seeing the family eat "regular" food and there I was with a crummy Protein shake.

Just keep your eye on the prize - this is a short term situation. In 6 months you'll look back at this and say, "It wasn't so bad." You are one step closer to changing your life. The next step won't be easy, either. You're going to have good days and bad days. There may be times you think to yourself, "What did I do to my body?!?!" I think that's normal.

I'm almost 8 months post-op and have had some bad days. I've had many more good days, though. I'm healthier and happier today than I was a year ago. This is a life changer.

Best of luck to you! Stay positive!

Thank you! I am trying my best to stay positive, I am one of those look on the bright side people.. Just been one tough week. And my doctor had me on just Clear Liquids today so it was just all building up out of frustration I suppose. I know there will be tough days down the road... I've been waiting on this surgery for 7 months pretty much because I got denied at first, So I am ready!!!!! ✌️

I expect I am probably going to be homicidal within a few days of starting the liquid diet. You are doing fantastic, you're in the home stretch now. Good luck tomorrow.

Always darkest before the dawn. One more day on your own, then you will have a new tool to help you the rest of the way. You can do it!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
