For people frustrated with those BMI charts....

Thought this article was interesting and helps reassure me (and maybe others as well) about my rather high BMI of 29 and still being overweight and borderline obese......even after losing close to 80 pounds. Personal opinion.....I wouldn't stop at just changing BMI charts, I would eliminate it entirely since it in no way takes into account a person's body composition percentage (fat vs muscle).

I agree. I look really good at 170, but which still puts me at about 25 lbs overweight. I've always been pretty muscular from 18 years of catching/playing softball, so i try to not let me BMI get me down. I dont even know the last time i was 155, it was def in elementary school.

I agree .. I will be considered overweight by 15 pounds when I reach MY goal weight of 150.

I just hate the BMI. I am 10 lbs over being "normal" weight at a BMI of 26.4. But if I lose more it would be with some muscle as well.

That's why I normally don't pay the BMI charts any attention. I know the article is mostly about women, but most of us guys think it's BS too. I'm holding steady around 15-16% body fat, with turning 42 in a couple of months, I'll take that. :)

I agree. I'm six feet tall. To take a set of numbers and compare me to a women of average height does not work. I'm going to have a much different muscle/bone mass due to being taller. I've always carried my weight well thanks to my height. Everyone is different and you can't compare apples to oranges.

I must admit however, I'm very happy to be a "loser" and a smaller person.

Have a good one everybody,

Kathleen

Yea I don't put much stock in the BMI charts either. Heck I have lost over 300lbs and I am still in the overweight club. Sucks being a short guy at times but whatever. I feel pretty damn good for an overweight guy as opposed to a morbidly obese walking time bomb.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
