jenns08 19 Posted July 8, 2014 I found out last week that I am pregnant. I am 1 week shy of my 1 year post op. I had blood work done and I am about 6 weeks pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago and the husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 years, so this is super exciting for us. My gynecologist says that I am at a healthy weight. Since finding out last week, I have found that the last couple of days, I haven't had much of an appetite. I already don't eat much, so this has me concerned. I feel like I am having to force myself to eat and when I do eat, I get full super fast. I have talked with my gynecologist and surgeon and neither seemed concerned. Has anyone else experienced this before? How many calories did you consume during your pregnancy?

soocalchic 1,087 Posted July 8, 2014 I've been sleeved for almost 2 years and I'm 31 weeks pregnant. I have only gained 9 lbs despite how much I eat. There will be times during your pregnancy when you will feel ravenous, listen to your body stay hydrated. If you need to get that Protein Shake in to up your calories for the day then do it. Pre pregnancy I hovered at around 1200 calories a day. I haven't been counting as much as I used to but i consume about 2000 to 2500 calories on a bad day lol
AbbieRoad 26 Posted July 23, 2014 It is important to drink plenty of fluids. I didn't drink enough Water toward the end of my pregnancy and had to be induced due to low amniotic fluids. That said, I had a healthy baby girl 3 weeks ago! I'm 20lbs lighter than my pre preg weight. I ate healthy, but are what I wanted. My nut and ob asked me to shoot for 2800 calories a day and 90oz of water a day. (I'm 6' tall so my caloric intake should be higher than a shorter girl) but it was simply impossible to reach that many calories (short of eating exclusively at mcdonalds lol, which was not the idea). Doc said eat what I can, when I can/want to. I always had an easier time eating later in the day than earlier in the morning. So at dinner, I would eat, wait 30minutes, eat seconds. It was always healthy rounded dinners, and it helped getting a bit more protien in!
BeBeSpArKLeS 70 Posted July 25, 2014 I have had awful nausea the first trimester. Now at 16 weeks I have found I am hungry again. I did have to rely on shakes to get calories and Protein in. Even now its a struggle cause I never want to eat really. Congrats on your pregnancy!
AshleyMidwife 189 Posted August 3, 2014 For women who have had Bariatric surgery and for those who have not, the first trimester can be super difficult due to nausea. Our restriction causes another level of complexity here. In your first trimester, Protein is the MOST important. Getting adequate protein can prevent many complications in pregnancy (preeclampsia, placental problems, etc). And the first trimester is when our babies are building all the essential groundwork for organ systems, etc. protein is super important in placenta formation as well. So if you're not able to eat much due to nausea and/or restriction, Protein Shakes as often as possible are your best bet! There are dissolvable tablets (zofran) that your doctor can prescribe to help, or a b6 tab with over the counter unisom at night can also be effective. AshleyMidwife 189 Posted November 9, 2014 Talk to your provider about a prescription for a daily antacid and antiemetic.
Bahamassunshine 0 Posted November 9, 2014 Got tums and Zyrtec Sometimes it work. Most times not. Right now am trying to drink a bottle of ensure. Had three gulps over an hr
AshleyMidwife 189 Posted November 9, 2014 Zyrtec is an allergy med.... Do you mean Zantac? There are other types of antacids that work different ways. If that one doesn't work, try another. Might ask your prenatal care provider a out trying Reglan for nausea because it can also speed up digestion.... Possibly making it easier to eat/drink more? Just a thought. Hydrate woman and take your Vitamins !
