07/07/2014 Band going to be removed on 07/31/2014

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am very happy because I have had pain for MONTHS, I finally went to the Dr. after having insurance again. Band is going to be removed at the end of the month. I have been having pain after just a few bits of well chewed food. Even yogurt was giving me chest pain. Went and had CT and band is in place. Dr. said that my "stomach" above band is probably swollen. I have had terrible upset stomach. I eat a few bites and am in pain within a few minutes. I feel better with nothing to eat. Since I have to eat, it is a liquid or something super chopped and about 4 oz. a serving, if that. I stay hydrated. Anything thicker than Water, causes pain. I have pain where the port is and he says the pain in chest is from the band and recommend removal. I have had band since July of 2007.

I had my gall bladder blow in October of 2012. I had emergency surgery and had it removed. That was a 4 week recovery. I had no real problems with food then, except I wasn't very hungry for a while. My gall bladder problem was more hereditary, as my sister, mother and gmom all had theirs removed before the age of 40. I was the oldest at 39 when mine went.

The pain in my chest feels like my gall bladder is going again (even tho' it is not there). He says it is from the band. Hopefully all my pain subsides after this darn thing is out. I lost about 35 with the band. I have had it since 2007. I have started to work out and have been losing more on my own, without the band. As when my gall bladder went they emptied it while I was awake with (7) attempts at finding the port. Was so painful with the attempts that I never went back to have it filled and I lost more weight on my own. I can feel the port everytime I do a sit up or turn the wrong way. Is so painful.

I will be glad when it is gone. :) Glad when the pain is gone!!!!

Hi Annie, I was banded in ;09 and I developed severe acid reflux and night coughs whenever I got Fluid in my band. I had nearly all of the Fluid removed and felt a lot better. Every once in a while I would somehow ( pull or strain a stomach muscle). At least that's what the Dr. said my pain was. Another Dr. said it was IBS. Whatever it was, I would hurt for 2-3 weeks in the port area. I had my band taken out yesterday. Yes, I'm sore right now but hoping that I will be able to exercise b/c I didn't before for fear of straining that muscle. Good Luck to you.

Well, surgery went great. I had whole body swelling from the band rejection. I could eat (2) bites and a sip of something...and couldn't eat before. Pains in chest, pains from port. Headaches and heartburn!I was miserable!

Now I noticed the swelling in my abdomen has gone down, is going down every where. I are dinner slowly and am taking it easy. I can take a deep breath as before I couldn't! I feel great! Sore from the incisions but soooo much better and so glad it is out!!! Thank you! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
