Stopped loosing and then gained some...HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi All! My name is Meg and I had my surgery on May 7, 2013 - I got down to 176.5 in January and this morning I weighted in at 190. HELP! I was stuck forever at at 182 and now that i am working out with a trainer I am putting weight on. Now I know, muscle weighs more but this is really worrying me! I know I have gotten on track and need to refocus but I not sure where to start! Any help of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And please don't yell at me for putting weight on, my mother does that for me (which doesn't help either but she is my biggest supporter). Thank you!!!

You are doing a lot of things right! You are working with a trainer - a great thing! And you have stepped back on the scale so you know what is happening, you are not in denial. You are seeking help before your weight is really out of control, and that is key! You have only gained 8 pounds, you can deal with that! :)

I do have a few suggestions...

1. If you are not tracking what you are eating, this would be a good time to start. I use MyFitnessPal.com and I really believe that it will be the key to my long term success (RNY on 6/25/2013).

2. Go back to the basics. Are you drinking when you eat? Are you tracking your Protein? How much are you getting? You can get too much Protein - so if you are up close to 90 - 100 grams a day, scale it back a bit. Are you drinking enough Water? Boost this up.

3. Call your clinic and make an appointment now to see your NUT. They aren't there to just cheer us on when everything is going well. They are there for us when we stumble and really need to get back on track. They are your best experts, and they know you and your plan. Make use of them.

4. If you have access to a support group, begin attending. Studies show that patients that attend support group meetings do much better long term. The in person support can help you find your motivation and get back on track too.

You CAN do this!! You still have this awesome tool you just need to tweek how you are using it. Success takes hard work, dedication, and commitment. It is worth it in the end!! I just hit my goal - I lost 205 pounds to get there. If I can do it, so can you!!

Hi Meg. Have you had your 1 year follow up with your surgeon and/or nutritionist? If not, you should probably schedule that. They can be invaluable in figuring out why you are stalling/gaining and can help tweak your eating and exercise plans. Best of luck to you!

Thank you!!! I did have my year visit and they are very happy with my results. I know I could e-mail my NUT at anytime (Which I may do) for extra help. I have my monthly support group tomorrow night and its about cooking - so I think that will help. Everyone tells me how great I am doing that I lost 110 lbs...but i don't feel that great about it. I am THRILLED with what I have done in my life by having the surgery - but I don't feel I have done my best. Does that make sense? I am bad about getting in all my Water - i know I am. I just signed back on to my fitness pal (BostonIrish21) and hope to get back on track with counting my Protein. Thank you again for your support - its truly helpful!!!

Working w/a trainer is awesome! One question: Are you taking measurements? That would be one sure way to see if you are gaining muscle rather than just gaining 'weight'. If your measurements are not going up then there is nothing to worry about. Measurements are better than scale weight to track your success when working out. You could also try the 'five day pouch test'. It takes you through all the stages of post-op eating in just five days, from liquid stage to solid food stage. It can help people get back on track among other things. :-)

It sounds like you're having a bit of perfectionism going on -- you've done great so far and who cares if you weren't perfect all the time? This is a little bump in the road and you have the skills and knowledge to get over it. DON'T give up on the training -- muscle burns more calories than fat, so if you're building muscle, you're amping up your metabolism.

Use your doctor and NUT to your full advantage. And believe your doctor if he says you're doing great. THEY KNOW!!! :)

We're often our own worst critic -- decide today you're going to be gentler to yourself and stop beating yourself up! You wouldn't do that to your best friend, so don't do it to yourself either!

Wishing you wild success!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
