TerryS93 0 Posted July 7, 2014 So I'm trying to hold back tears right now. I did my sleeve on 21/6 and everything went well. Up until last week. My tongue developed this white coating towards the end and it's making everything taste awful. Even Water. There was a poop like taste as well but I started taking something for bowel movement and it's not as bad. But the white coating is still here. I wake up every morning and my mouth would be so dry and that bitter taste is there. Today I woke up with a fever. And every time I feel like throwing up nothing comes out except foam and white saliva. I had a kidney stone before the surgery so that hurts as well. I don't know what to do. Everyone keeps dismissing my concerns. My doctor says everything has a price and this will eventually go. I can't do this anymore. I wish I didn't do the surgery. I'm an emotional mess. I need help. I don't know what kind of help I need but I need something to hold on to because I can't do this anymore. I just can't.
makemyownluck 785 Posted July 7, 2014 white coating to the tongue could be thrush? it's a yeast infection in your mouth, basically. Or it could be a sign of dehydration... I also had this side effect of everything tasting awful when I did my pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks, it was keotone (sp?) related, basically going ALL Protein can do that to you, but it did go away after about 3 weeks. google "keotone breath" and you'll get a lot of pages with tips to control it. the good news is, if it is keotone related that means you're sticking to your Protein diet rather nicely and your body is doing it's job. I don't remember what the "tips" were to get rid of it. I just chewed a lot of gum and drank crystal light (cuz Water was disgusting with a mouth that tasted like garbage!) This DID pass for me, though. Even while still on the diet. IDK if it had to do with adjusting to the protein diet or what, but it did go away. I'm sorry you're having a tough time, but there is NO benefit from saying "I wish I hadn't done this" because there's no going back now. Try to get through it the best you can, drink your Water, take your Vitamins, eat your protein... it DOES GET BETTER. I promise! And when it does, you'll be glad you made a choice to improve your life! Stay Positive!! Good luck! 1 Miss Mac reacted to this
jess9395 5,449 Posted July 7, 2014 Dehydration will put a white coating on your tongue. Is your urine dark? If so seek some medical attention soon! They can give you if fluids and help break you out of this. But yes it could also be ketosis or thrush/yeast.
quuquui 30 Posted July 7, 2014 This is a tough period post-surgery. I know because I am going through it too. Yeast infection makes sense because of the antibiotics. Try eating probiotic yogurt or kefir. I had a yeast infection post op too, got rid of it with otc remedies and eating Probiotics. Right now I am having problems with constipation/diarrhea (both) with pain in my lower quadrant. About to call the Dr just to make sure everything is up and up. I did not think it would take this long to feel good and I have had a few tears as well. But I am confident "this too will pass". It is always good to receive assurance during this difficult healing period. Support is essential to your wellbeing. If you don't have supportive family or friends around you don't be embarrassed to call your Dr. My kids are Dr's so I know they are just people, feeling people at that. In reference to regretting the surgery. I had a couple of moments like that but then I remembered where I was when I decided to go for it. Do I want to be there again? No way! I spent years trying to do it on my own, and I had to force the hand, since I wasn't able to control food intake without help. Forcing the hand comes with sacrifices, not least of all is learning to derive pleasure without food, the temporary physical ones I am confident will resolve. Now to call my surgeon for reassurance. 2 #9grammy and Miss Mac reacted to this
McButterpants 2,846 Posted July 7, 2014 Have you talked to your doctor about thrush?
DSMCasey 15 Posted July 7, 2014 Probably thrush but you should talk to your doctor. The first few weeks are rough, then it gets better. Talk to your doctor or give him a call. Thrush can be caused when your immune system is weak (such as after surgery) but requires medicine to clear up.
TerryS93 0 Posted July 8, 2014 So I went to the clinic today and my body is in Ketosis (the stick was purple) and I'm dehydrated. They gave me some IV Fluid but said I need to drink more Water. Around 2 liters. I need to figure out how to do that and how to get out of Ketosis. Thank you guys
sawzaw 0 Posted July 8, 2014 KETOSIS is a good thing! It means your body is burning fat!
DSMCasey 15 Posted July 8, 2014 Yep, ketosis is a good thing. Exactly what he said, ketosis means your body is burning fat for fuel. You really want ketosis! Drink more Water for sure. Most people suggest 64 oz of water at least per day. Buy those sugar free mio's that you add to flavor water if you cant drink that much water straight. madwife2002 110 Posted July 8, 2014 I think you the regret you are feeling is normal-I know I felt it and still feel it sometimes-I am early on but I do understand what you mean. It is a kind of mourning the loss of freedom in what you eat, the pureed stage of the diet is horrible and i have got to the stage of almost puking when I eat cottage cheese or yogurt. I am sure I may never eat cottage cheese again. I am getting to the stage where food is just what I have to eat to live. I think we can go through the 5 stages of grief with this surgery! Some people may laugh at me but I think it is normal to do this
