surgery the 8th

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling so nervous and on edge for my bypass on Tuesday. I have to stay 2 nights in the hospital. My partner isn't going with me, so it'll be my first stay ever in a hospital alone overnight.

In August we were supposed to go on a vacation-camping in the desert, but my surgeon told me I won't be able to do that. My partner decided he's going anyway. This is an expensive trip, well about $5k including airfaire so it was going to be our only vacation of the year for us as a couple. He's going without me.

I've been on liquids for a week- am so hungry. I admit I'm emotional. Am I justified in feeling so upset about these things?

My band removal wasn't planned: it was an emergency removal in April and the insurance gave me a window during which to do my bypass as did my surgeon. I loved my band-it slipped and I couldn't drink Water without pain. So it's not like I elected to have it removed and screw around with his life.

Words of wisdom?

Shame on your partner for going without you and leaving you home IMO.

You are very justified in being upset.

Please don't let this get to you because you need to be as relaxed as possible for Tuesday.

You're going through a big change from what you were used to with the lap band.

Bypass surgery was not my first choice. I was going to have the sleeve and was all prepared for that until my gastric doctor told me because of my acid reflux I would be better off with bypass. I'm glad I had the bypass it's made a world of difference in my life.

I'm sure you'll pleased with yours too.

Just following all the guidelines your surgeon and nutritionist have set up for you and you'll do well.

I wish you well on Tuesday and I hope that your partner will be there for you.

Good luck and best wishes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
