RNY Tuesday July 8, 2014

Recommended Posts

I am a 61 year old woman who works full time as a RN director of an emergency dept. I will be having surgery this Tuesday. I am the grandmother of a baby boy who's going to turn one in August and 13-year-old girl who I met when she was nine. I'm looking forward to this as I weigh 336 pounds and I would like to get down 150 lbs. I have not been heavy all of my life but since my children were born the last one born 26 years. Anybody have tips or hints for me. I would really appreciate anything. Look forward to getting support from you all and also giving some support if I can. Thank you. Keep your fingers crossed for me at 9:30 and Tuesday, July 8 Mountain standard time. Prayers welcome too!

Casey999,

Had RNY Tuesday July 8, 2014 post -op day 4. Much better day today! I slept well, had a shower, and had my first Protein Shake and it was pretty good, a bit sweet but palatable! Even Water is going down easier today! Thanks for your support how are you today?

I'm glad you're doing better. I went out tonight for a "last meal". It was great but I'm very uncomfortable now. I start the pre op diet Wednesday. Fun

Take care and take one day at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
