Protein examples?? Please

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to get in as much Protein as I've been told. I do drink my Protein shake in the morning which has 20 grams and then I've been trying to do the chicken salad or some type like that. I keep getting yelled at that im still in this mushy food phase but I really have a hard time eating chicken lately. I don't like fish so that's not an option. I post on the other board and they tell me im stuck in the mushy food phase and I need to eat more solid Protein, but it truly makes me pb within a few minutes of eating it, even if i chew well. I've been doing chilli for lunch but they say that is too liquidy (not a word) as well. Help people I am eating things that i know will stay down like mashed potatoes and Soups and chilli. I am not losing any weight at all and it's very frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this. please don't yell at me. I am trying to eat healthy but I cannot seem to get chicken and things like that to stay down. Any ideas ?

thanks

Cindy

refried beans!! You can get them out or buy a can. Add some salsa and it's a great meal. If there's whole Beans, just mush them with your fork or chew.

I also blended turkey chili when I was in the mushy stage and it went down fine.

I wasn't too concerned, because my Protein shake has 30 grams in one can, so that's about my daily need.

Good luck!

Do you like Cream of Wheat? If so, make that, but add a couple tablespoons of Sanalac powdered milk. It adds a good bit of Protein, makes it taste creamier, and makes it more liquid so it will go down easier.

For things like cream Soups, I also add the Sanalac. It was recommended by my dietician and really does seem to make my "full" feeling last longer! If I eat something that is NOT dairy based, I add some Knox NutraJoint Gelatine powder to it. Adds no taste, but adds protein! Also recommended by my dietician. You can use it to add to Jello and even your Jello will have Protein. I also add it to the pitcher of Crystal Lite I make every few days.

There is also a Slim Fast powder out made with soy protein that has 15 grams of protein per serving versus 5 grams you get with the "normal" Slim Fast powder.

Hope these ideas help!!

If you can't eat real food, you have too much restriction. Not being able to eat real food is not what the band is about.

Get egg white substitute, add that to your creamed Soups, or grits (in the cream of wheat family)...See if your butcher can grind up chicken for you (chop meat style), egg salad its Creamer but how long ago did you get your band, you should be on solids, i have to agree your band may be too tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
