3 Questions - I'm considering getting banded.

Recommended Posts

I did mostly walking for first two months. Then I added working out at Curves 4X week. Because of the nature of my job (psychiatric hospital where I teach classes and have direct contact with the clients some of which can be very agitated and dangerous) I was out for four weeks. Since surgery on Jan. 19, I am down 32 punds. No regrets thus far.

1. Initial success yes, I lost 50 # the first 2 months but then lost nothing more until I started exercising

2. I took 10 days off (and work a desk job) I Could have went back after 3 or 4 days with no problems - but hey--I milked it.

3. Regreted it? I got depressed for a couple days right after surgery, but that went away and I loved it, now I'm kinda regretting not doing gastric bypass -- but then I am a really big guy -- 200# more to lose. What I really regret was not doing it when I was in the 300# range - I was 457# when I had it done.

Why do you say this? Do you think it is better? What do you think would be the difference for you if you had GB? I'm still on the fence and am very interested in why you would think this.....

Jasgot,

The thing with gastric bypass is they re-route your organs and thats pertinent. Then gastric bypass people have to deal with malabsorption and have to take a hand full of pills a day. Thats not for me.

Also I myself don't have the schedule or funds to justify a gym. I just know I won't stick to it and everyone staring at me. Then the monthly fees, and the gas money & time to get over to the gym. So I bought an Omron HJ-720ITC pedometer off of Amazon.com for $29 shipped. Unlike other pedometers, you can slip it right into your pocket and it works, no clipping on for everyone to see and it to fall off. Also it syncs to your home computer and puts it into night graphs. Best one out there! I wear it from morning to bedtime and get my goal of 12,000 steps a day.

You can find out a lot about lapband and gastric bypass on youtube.com

Hope this helps!

Gastric bypass is much more drastic, which ironically is the reason I did not choose it, however, it is a faster and more foolproof method. It also has some inheirant dangers in that its very easy to not get enough Vitamins and minerals causing some potentially severe health issues. I am at such a large weight that its very hard for me to exercise like I should - even after losing 50# I am still above 400#.

They also have the gastric sleve which is another choice - safer than the bypass but I believe more restrictive than the lapband.

definatly go to a couple of seminars and ask questions, my surgeon did all the weight loss surgeries.
