Working During the Pre-op Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

I am extremely worried about working while I am doing the two week liquid diet my doc wants me to do. I wanted to take off work but the girls in the dr's office tell me the doc won't give me a letter allowing me to do that.

I work for a courier company that is very fast paced. I unload trucks by hand for the first two hrs. A lot of heavy stuff. I am 65 and the temperature is forecast to be 103-106 during most of the two weeks. We work outside under a canopy but still really hot.

Did any of you guys have this problem?

I was worried about working during the pre-op diet - for me, I was more worried about mental sharpness, but also physical stamina. In those two weeks I had a coupe important client meetings, including co-facilitating an all-day workshop. My surgery was on a Monday, so my diet was supposed to start the Monday two weeks prior, but what I did was start it the Friday before the Monday I was supposed to start, so that the worst of it would hit me over the weekend. People's experiences are different, but I'd seen a lot of people say that the first 4 days are the hardest. For me day 2 was the worst - I felt super low energy and had a headache all day, but after that I actually felt pretty normal. As long as you're doing shakes that are low carb your blood sugar should stabilize within a few days and you should feel okay. I would just make sure that your surgeon understands the physical demands of your job, in case it warrants any difference in your pre-op diet.

One disclaimer - I ate real food instead of shakes, but kept to 1000 calories, super low carb/high Protein.

Good luck! And stay as cool and hydrated as you can!

A few weeks ago I tried a three day juice cleanse over a holiday weekend. Lots of fruits and veggies. Tasted pretty good but when i returned to work I had to stop after an hour or so. Just did not have any stamina. Everyone said I looked like I was going to pass out. Kind of embarrassing. Because of that incident I am really afraid of this liquid diet thing. That and the fact that it is even hotter than it was then.

I am hoping I can just slow down just a little and stay hydrated and get through it.

fruit and veggies wouldn't give you anywhere the Protein you need though - I'm pretty sure the Protein Shake thing will be a better experience for you.

I pray you are right. I will give it a try anyway. The only other thing I can do is ask my surgeon to allow me to put this off until January which will be after our busiest season and very cool outside as well.

I work construction and in a restaurant on weekends. I was put on a 800cal all liquid diet. It was brutal. My life saver was broth. A pint is like 15 calories. I had it religiously. It tricks your stomach cause its warm. But it gets really easy after day 4. Also bout a week in I found out I was allowed 1 cup veggies. Pickles will be ur best friend. 0 calories. Find out what restriction ull have all dr. Are different.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
