Increasing energy during two week pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I tried to search energy on the board but I never got a really clear answer about energy during the pre-op diet phase. I lead a pretty busy life. I know from past experience doing the induction phase of the Adkins diet I get pretty lethargic. I was wondering how everyone managed their energy levels. Did you take any supplements, any Protein shakes better than another, what. I will not cheat but I have to be able to function over that 2 week before surgery and even the 2-3 weeks after surgery. Being low on energy makes things difficult.

I'm on day 6 of my pre op diet and I've had sooo much energy since day 2! I don't know if it's from the diet or because I'm finally feeling happier as I know this surgery and my life changing is just around the corner!!! Good luck!!! X

For me the first couple of days on liquids were lower energy but then a surge of energy came along, plus better sleep at night, etc. And as the weight comes off the rise in energy is amazing. Good luck to you as you get ready for everything. Exciting times!

When you improve your diet and start eating healthier, you'll be amazed at how much energy you ' ll have ! Only when I eat too many sweets ( my biggest , never ending problem ) do I notice my energy sagging. The more lean Protein and fresh fruits and veggies I eat, the better I feel.

I was told the first few days I will have low energy because of low carbs. I take B -12 and supplement, that really help me. Please don't cheat I regret eating a few cracker two days in a roll. Make sure you're getting enough Water that will help

That's true about the sleep. I've been sleeping much better than before.

I am on the second week of my pre op. I also felt terrible. Headaches that wouldn't go away, muscle aches. I think the sugar free stuff had a lot to do with it. The aspertame in it causes problems like this. I cut back on it and felt much better. I work at a pretty high paced job. I substituted a premeir Protein Shake as one of my meals. I feel 1000 times better now.

Breakfast Protein shake with coffee

30 min later 1/2 cup liquid your choice low sugar or none

30 min later same

30 min same

lunch 1/2 cup creamy Soup

30 min later drink

30 min drink

30 min drink

snack Jello or yogurt

dinner Soup 1/2 cup

30 min Protein Shake again before bed helps blood sugars.

Drink drink drink!

Think as if it was your million dollar meal and you only get it once. Enjoy the flavor and rich creamy texture and play with your food and shakes helps too. I like to stir things more and sip sip sip.

Hope this helps oh yes!

If you hold more then 1/2 cup of food or liquids that's ok too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
