I'mDoingIt! 88 Posted July 5, 2014 Hi, This is my first post. Surgery still a month away but trying to get as prepared as possible. My question is how do you get Protein during the clear liquid phase. My doctor wants me on clear liquid for 2 weeks. I purchased the Liquid Protein from his office and will do 2 a day which give me 30 grams of Protein total. What else can I do? Thanks for any tips. SO nervous but great to read all the positive stories in the forum.

Wynnie 186 Posted July 5, 2014 The Protein shake(s) should be part of your daily intake, but ask your doctor as each is different. Also,I did protein powder 3 times a day at the liquids only part in order to get the minimum required 60 grams of protein a day. Did this straight out of the hospital. I am now at the 23 day mark and have lost 22 pounds, so it did not hinder my weight loss, I'm happy with losing approx a pound a day FYI I had to weight loss stalls but made up for it. 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
mi75 1,236 Posted July 5, 2014 during Clear Liquids, many doctors have you do the Protein 'shots'. they are these callogen based liquid shots with anywhere from 30-45 Proteins in 2-3 oz of liquid. they sound enticing, but taste wise they are pretty yucky. also, they are mostly callogen based, some are whey based, and callogen based Protein is not as useful to our bodies as whey. i used them for only 2 days post op during Clear Liquids then moved on to full liquids and was able to add my Protein shakes back in. yay! you will want to check with your surgeon about what they require as far as protein. 2 wks is a long time to go without your shakes! There are many protein sources that mix with water and give you added Vitamins. Get samples before you buy large containers because some taste awful and you will be suck with a giant tub of undrinkable protein. Nashua Nutrition offers samples of all their protein powders. Be careful to read labels-some have higher carbs, gluten and dairy (I am dairy and gluten-free).
I'mDoingIt! 88 Posted July 5, 2014 thank you all for you responses. I didn't realize that I could use Protein powder during the clear liquid phase. I will definitely look at ordering a sample pack and see what I like. I know taste changes after surgery so don;t want to assume what I like now is what I will like then. Thank you!!!! BeagleLover 1,020 Posted July 6, 2014 I'm currently doing research on ProSource No Carb liquid Protein. It can be added to any liquids, hot or cold. I've put in a question online as to what kind of Protein is in it--- hope it's protein isolate, which is most useable.
