Saw that some people on here have a card when they go out to eat it states they have weight loss surgery so the restaurant can acknowledge and give u small portions cheaper priced.

Just wondering if anyone knows any info on this. Thanks a lot.

my bariatric coordinator gave me one before i left the hospital. it's a little card with the surgeon's info on it, and informs medical teams AND restaurants that i am a bari pt, requests certain medical procedures certain ways, and asks for me to be allowed to order off the children's menu, or a smaller portion.

i am having it laminated and will carry it with my ID.

I got one from my surgeon, but I have never used it.

At almost 8 months out I usually split my husband's meal (actually about 80% for him and 20% for me). I just ask for a 2nd plate and haven't had any issues. If he wants something I don't want, I just order a full portion and bring most of it home for leftovers. Also, ordering off the appetizer menu helps, too.

Yeah my husband is totally opposite eater than I am and I can't tolerate left over meals :(

It sucks buying something for 12 $ and only eating like 4$ of it.

I like the idea of it, but I'm very private. I wouldn't want the waitress knowing my business (most people much closer to me don't know), so I don't know if I would use it.

I do waste a lot of food when i go out or I bring it home.

I tossed my card away. The price of a kid's meal is just a few dollars less than an adult plate. I'd rather take home the leftovers than have to go through explaining my surgery to a waiter or the manager. I'm going out not to eat but to hang out with my friends, so the cost is not the issue.

I do not have a card concerning my bariatric sleeve procedure. I just simply tell the wait staff that I have had this surgery & may I select food from the kids menu. I have never had anyone say no. I had one restaurant bring me a tiny bowl of Soup & I wasn't even charged for it. I mostly eat at restaurants where they know me & they always ask how I'm doing. I will get an extra plate & eat from my boyfriends food or will order from the side dish part of the menu. The kids menu is still a lot of food & I usually bring home half of that!

I'm one of those people that doesn't care if people know I have had this surgery. I've been amazed at the people who know others who have had some sort of bariatric surgery & I like hearing how those people have done. I get a lot of encouragement from some unexpected places. Let's face it - we need all the encouragement we can get.

When me and my wife go out we order 1 meal and split it. Usually 70/30. And if the waitress looks puzzled I have no problem explaining why.

I just box everything up and have leftovers. That saves me from having to buy a lean cuisine for work the next day. LOL!

I got one. Saved me a lot at one of the Vegas buffets by letting me pay the child size. another one didn't accept it. I'm not sure I'd often order from the kids menu, but I'd love to know what places will let you order half plates if anyone knows. I'm not a big leftovers fan either. Though I'm not sure how often I'll be going out any time soon. :)

I eat off the starter menu. If not, I order from the 'big grown up girls' menu and ask them to 'hold the carbs'.

If you notice, most 'plates' are made up of a little Protein and a lot of fluffy carb filler.

Or, if I can't be bothered to make the request, I eat the Protein, a bit of the salad and leave the rest.

Life is too short to worry about rice or potatoes. And if I can't finish the meat? I have a human dustbin who generally sits opposite me, waiting like Pavlov's dog to hoover up the rest of it. :)

I don't think it's a coincidence that my husband has gained about 10 pounds since my surgery! My dog is heavier, too!

I also received one post-op, but haven't ever used it. I often look to see if there's an opportunity - but frankly, children's meals are breaded chicken strips, mac & cheese, etc. Things I don't want to eat. My favorite place to look is on the appetizer menu!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
