Acid Reflux with band?!

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since July 2012. I lost about 60 lbs pretty quickly then came to a complete stand still for a long time. Now I have started to gain. :( I have been having issues with acid reflux on and off for awhile now. I have taken Prilosec to help, but it gets better then returns. Going through a really bad spell of it now. Couldn't sleep last night because every time I laid down and fell asleep the reflux would return. I've tried mylanta, tums, sitting up, etc. not sure what to do from here. Haven't been to my doc since Feb and it's July now. Scared he's going to take out all my Fluid and wait it out. I don't want to gain anymore!!!!!! Anyone else with these issues?! What is causing it? Slipped band? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!

can be anything...I will say this is a common occurrence with banded people....

For me, I have found I needed to cut way back on spicy foods...no more chips and salsa, hot sauce on everything....

From time to time my Dr will instruct me take Prilosec or similar...

Be sure to ell your Dr., and follow his/her advice.....

I feel it is necessary to visit your doctor at regular intervals so that you are able to keep a track of the changes happening in your body. The doctor will be able to give you the best remedy for your acid influx because there could be various reasons for the influx. It could be your diet or even the time when you would be taking in your food.< /p>

My band simply was at the end of its lifespan when this happened after almost 11 years. I ended up with severe aspiration at night where it would go into my lungs and would have eventually caused pneumonia. I got my band removed today.

You should go to the doctor as soon as possible. It may not be this drastic but best to get it checked out anyway. Doesn't mean a slippage, mine never slipped - I had horrible pouch dilation which started my issues. Good luck and keep us posted!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
