I'm 9 days out from my surgery. I had a post op infection that kept me in hospital for the first week. They had me on IV antibiotics in the hospital and it me on a 2 week course of augmentin. I'm on 2nd day and my stomach seems fine. Only down side is bathroom runs.

They gave me HORSE pills for augmentin. I wish I would have asked them if the med came in liquid form or much smaller pills. I bought a pill crusher and I grind them up and have put the pill dust into my shakes and this morning my apple sauce

I developed sepsis earlier this month after getting a piece of glass in my foot. (6 months post-op VSG.) We did a combination of IV antibiotics, oral liquid antibiotics, and huge oral pill antibiotics cut in half (not crushed). I was able to get them down easily, but they did make me queasy. I wasn't able to eat much of anything for several days, then developed thrush from the antibiotics which prevented me from eating for a few days more. I worked hard to stay hydrated, so I had no complications from dehydration, and the not eating for a solid week contributed to me busting out of a very long stall.

fyi there are MANY antibiotics that can be compounded into liquid form, just remind the doc you see that you can't really take pills right now, and would prefer a liquid. shouldn't be any problem!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
