Protein Powders/Supplements

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any recommendations for the best tasting Protein Powder? Surgery date is 7/8 and I want home to be already stocked with what I will need.

Hi Angel, my surgery was 6/18/2014 and I too wanted to be prepared. So, I sampled MANY shakes and supplements and decided on two: Atkins RTD Advantage shakes and Jay Robb strawberry. Well, a funny thing happened after my surgery - I can't stand the taste of chocolate!! Who would ever have thought it?! So, I'm "making do" with the vanilla or strawberry Akins shakes, the Jay Robb strawberry (blended with water) and some New Direction chicken Soup that I can eat at room temperature.

Looking back, I personally don't think that two choices of shakes pre-surgery are sufficient. I would suggest you have 3-4 at home with samples or very small size containers. Sometimes the large economy size is not the best value. But be sure to have someone lined up who can get more Protein for you as you probably won't feel like going to the store.

Good luck with your surgery! I'll be watching for your posts! Blessings!

I use Jay Robb whey Protein powders since surgery.

I mix them with Torani sugar free syrups that come in a multitude of flavors.

I some times mix the powders with PB2 either the chocolate Peanut Butter or the PB2 peanut butter. Both are very tasty.

I would check with your nutritionist to make sure it's okay for you to use these products and when could you start to use them.

Good luck with your up coming surgery.

I love total lean 25 from GNC. Best stuff in the world. At least for me :)

unjury has a viariety sample pack, 2 each of 5 flavors for about 24 bucks.

MuscleMilk will send you a sample if you email requesting it.

Insure will give you $3 coupon for proving your information, and i think they are emailing more offers.

I know there are others... and one of the discussions on this site has a more complete list, a quick search should pull it up. But companies want you to try their products... all you have to do is ask. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
