Post-op Week2 - High Protein Sources OTHER than shakes

Recommended Posts

Okay, I need help. I don't want to drink the Protein shakes. My nutritionist told me about rockin refuel chocolate milk. It's 9g of net carbs and 30g Protein. Taste great. Other favors are very high sugar and not as much protein. So have to stick with chocolate. I just struggle to drink 3 a day in week 2 (day 1). I was not a big milk or milk tasting guy

In the hospital the only thing I'd eat was the "gelatein". Small Jello cup but taste & texture not that great but it was quick & 20g of protein.

I know that the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury website sells some products like a mix you can mix in your crystal lite that has 20g. GNC sells some Protein Shots that don't have a bunch of other junk. Just protein. Like 5 hr energy but for protein. The one had 50g of protein. Bot they want $30 for a dozen.

So I'm reaching out to the group. Please don't mention other Protein drinks. I don't want Protein Drinks. But if you know of something early weeks patients can consume that is small in size but at least 20g of protein, I'd loved to hear. Thanks

I added unjury unflavored Protein powder to everything...

Swansons Tortilla Soup base

Swansons Chinese hot and sour base

Strain wonton soup broth

chicken or beef broth

Diluted and strained cream Soups...shrimp, asparagus, mushroom, spinach, chicken, etc....

Tomato Soup

Potato Leek soup

Lobster Bisque

Mash potatoes

Split pea soup...blended for mushy stage

Bean soups....blended for mushy stage

Drinkable yogurt (Siggi's and kefir have the least crap added)

I also used vanilla and chocolate Premier Protein as Creamer in my coffee

And I know you said no Protein drinks, but there are DOZENS out there that aren't chocolate and have no sugar. Syntrax nectar and Muscle Milk are just two of many brands. Flavor choices include Apple, citrus, dreamsicle, fuzzy naval, lemonade, iced tea, cherry, cake batter, strawberry, Cookies and cream, banana cream, and many more....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
