Week One - I'm on a high!

Recommended Posts

I was just cleared for pureed today at my one week visit. I’m eating chicken zucchini souffle and hummus, and I’m in heaven right now. I was also told that me pre-op cooking frenzy of various 2 oz. portions of protein-packed foods will be enough Protein to satisfy the 60 grams a day. I will not have to supplement with Protein Shakes. How intensely exciting is that? Planning, shopping, cooking, measuring, and freezing... SO WORTH IT!

That's awesome! I do a lot of cooking, portioning and freezing on Sundays so I don't have to think about my meals for the rest of my busy week. It's a good habit to get into. :)

Thanks great!! I'm loving reading your journey :) My husband and I start ours on the 5th (surgery on the 18th). However, I feel VERY overwhelmed with the thought of premaking food for when we'll be able to eat it. I think I'm kind of in denial. When something overwhelms me I tend to shut it out and push the thought away. But I know that I need to do SOMETHING. I just don't know what, where or how to start!

Okay, breathe! Start a word document for keeping track of your thoughts as you have sudden inspirations. Personally, I use Google Docs. Weeks before, I began to compile a list of foods that I *do* cook well. Then, when the list was long enough, I began to calculate the ingredients to see which one was most worth cooking. Finally, one day I made a shopping list. It took at least three weeks to actually go out, buy them, cook them, portion it, and freeze it. And THEN I got really excited, as I felt very empowered. That document turned out to be my lifesaver. Because, one day I learned from the site about refried Beans. I've never eaten them in my life. So I went out, bought a can, tasted it, loved it, portioned it and froze it! ... and added it to the document to my 'inventory'. Slowly I accumulated six weeks of food for post-op.

I'm working to refine that list. I have added two foods yesterday, and continue to experiment. I hope to put together a blog as soon as I have my brain back.

Just to show you what empowerment looks like:

2 oz. portions stored in condiment containers

Freezer stocked and ready for RNY

I thought about trying to precook stuff but never got around to it. However, I haven't had any problems because the progression is slow anyway. So, at the beginning of each week, I'd read the booklet from my nutritionist to see what was allowed and then go to the store and buy 2-3 or some of those things. Your choices are pretty limited and you won't eat very much, so shopping is pretty lightweight.

Now that I've finished my soft foods week and am on normal food this week, it's a little more intimidating. But, I bought the precooked chicken fajita meat, cans of chili and refried Beans and egg beaters and I'm fairly good to go. I don't mind eating the same things over and over again so it's working for me to just stock the fridge with precooked stuff. I keep track of Protein with My Fitness Pal and if I'm not at 60 grams late at night, I throw in a shake.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
