Surgery August 8th going crazy

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is just about a month away. I am supposed to be practicing chewing and on no carb low fat diet. I did ok the first week but I am slowly cheating with things that I feel I have to have because I will not be able to have them later.....I am also getting anxious and doubting my decision to do this. Anyone out there experience this. Hoping to do well on the 3 week before surgery liquid diet to shrink liver...please help!

I cant totally relate. My surgery date is August 4th. I start my low carb diet on July 21st. But they told me to go ahead and be practicing chew, chew, chew. That's hard for me. I practically inhale my food sometimes. I have to make a conscience effort to chew slowly and thoroughly. I'm excited about surgery though, seems like an eternity till August!

The day before I was to start my pre op diet I actually had a food funeral at work. Everyone brought all of my favorite foods and I ate like a mad woman. Lol It was, at least in my mind, my time to put to rest old habits and start a new beginning with healthier choices.

I'm having trouble chewing and sipping. I down loaded the eat slower app and it seems to help. My surgery isn't till sept. I hope

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
