AshleyG2014 2 Posted July 3, 2014 I just made the decision a week ago to go ahead and begin my journey to getting the Roux ENY gastric bypass surgery. I have talked with my insurance company which is CoreSource through Gulfstream and they said that they will cover 90% and I will only have to cover the remainder 10%. I was curious to know if anyone with this same insurance company has had a good experience or did they cause complications on needing certain documentation? I basically just do not want to be denied my surgery and I'm hoping the process of getting approved by the insurance company flows smoothly. My first "informational session" is July 15, 2014. Thanks Ashley, 21 5'10" 266 lbs.
lguthery 0 Posted September 3, 2014 Hi Ashley, what did you find out about Core Source? I am starting this journey and that is also who my insurance is with through my husband, thanks!
renay67 0 Posted September 24, 2014 I too am with core source, have either of you found out the if they require 3 months nutrition counseling?
AshleyG2014 2 Posted November 21, 2014 Hey guys sorry it has taken me so long to reply. you can either choose 6 months of nutritional dietion meetings with your primary care or 3 months with your bariatric team. You also have to attend a support group and a psych eval as well as an upper gi xray exam. Also they drew my blood for B12 and thiamine levels. my last appt. is November 26th i am very worried that i won't get approved because of weight gain....I went from 273 at my first appt. to 275 by my next appt. and my third appt. i was at 271....but now i've went from 271 to 283 i'm scared they will deny me because i gained but that is the whole reason i'm needing this surgery is my weight embalance! My bariatric office called me 2 weeks ago and told me to start doing B12 injections once everyday fo two weeks because my levels were low but other than that everything has went pretty smooth. I'll keep you updated and hopefully i will get approved and have my surgery in early/mid December!
AshleyG2014 2 Posted November 21, 2014 So far i have paid my $20 co pay for my monthyly visits $9 bill from something $3 bill for something $350 Psych eval $150 support group and the day of my surgery i'll have a $300 copay at the hospital
renay67 0 Posted November 21, 2014 Thank for keeping us informed. Dr kelly removed my lapband two weeks ago and yesterday he told me I can not have RNY for six months. I will be doing a three month supervised diet with bariatric team. To lose the weight before your next dr appt try the liquid diet (soups and Protein drinks). Good luck getting approved and keep us updated. I think if we could be each others support it will help us be more successful.
nicolesheffield07 0 Posted June 28, 2015 I know this is a very old post.. But I'm looking to have RNY. My husband just started Gulfstream and we will be moving down there in August. I already have lapband and it worked great for the first year. Then I got pregnant and have had two babies since (can't have anymore!!) but everytime I get a fill I get an infection and have to get and unfill. So I need to do something different. How was the process did any of you get through the process?
renay67 0 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Nicole, i have Gulfstream core source and im well aware of the process. Dr Kelly is awesome, I just had my surgery on June 17th. Insurance covers little in the pre surgery part but 100% of the surgery. So over all I paid about $1,000 out of pocket but it was a little here and a little there not all at once. I can tell you once you get here it will be a minimum of 3-4 months before you have surgery. Get it this year because as of next year our insurance changes and who knows what will be covered. nicolesheffield07 0 Posted June 29, 2015 Renay, did I read above you have your lapband removed? I already have labpand but everytime I have it filled a get an infection a few months after and have to start over with the fills. I am hoping they can remove it and do the RNY at the same time but I see you said you had to wait 6m.
renay67 0 Posted June 29, 2015 I did have to wait six months but it was because I had what I think was a panic attack and it landed me in the hospital checking my heart. Dr Kelly wanted to wait six months as a precaution. He said he does do revision in one surgery but he did not want to chance that the band may have caused my chest pains. He said his job is to do surgery but his first job is making sure his patients are save. He us really awesome, even though I did not like that I had to wait. I'm super excited and calling tomorrow I only live 2 1/2 hours away so if I need to make the trip to get this party started I will. How are you doing so far with your journey?
