I saw a orange and decided to eat some. I now don't think that was so smart. I had surgery in April. I shouldn't have ate it. Boy, am I paying for it now. My tummy is hurting.

I too cannot seem to eat oranges, or at least not much. I am a year out and still have problems. Orange juice doesn't seem to bother me tho.

Is the pain from the acid in the orange or is it the fibrous flesh that may be stuck in your pouch?

I can eat 1/2 a grapefruit with no problem, but an orange....not so much. Go figure.

it's probably the acid...we were instructed to stay away from citrus (even in juice...which they told us not to have at all) because it will upset the tummy... you are still healing from the inside out, so the acid probably caused an adverse reaction... you may be able to have some later...but, for now, hold off...

hope you are feeling better soon

I plan to toss the rest of the orange in the trash. I guess I need alittle longer before i try it again.

It was over 6 months post-op before Frankensleeve would tolerate any kind of fruit or tough vegetables. Apples, grapes, pineapple, squash, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce... Everything made him growl and churn like rocks in a garbage disposal.

I found it ironic that I could easily tolerate all the old processed foods, but I was locked out from eating the healthy stuff !!!!! It takes time, but by month 9, I was eating almost anything without any grumbling from Frankensleeve.

I do have to say... Orange juice sounded so great! Having never been cautioned about it, I was not prepared for the burning sensation! Won't be doing that again anytime soon...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
