Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I should have said I would LIKE to see a lb a day but like you Laurie I'm about 1lb per two days.

Also I'm starting to really notice how my body is changing and it's causing me to start thinking about how I look, fashion makeup jewelry all that jazz in a whole new intense light. Feels weird caring.

I haven't made it a secret that I had surgery cause I did and it's legal and I'm pretty open I guess. Today I was glad because a co- worker asked me all about the surgery, sees how I am doing - well and happy and wants to look into it for herself. Its nice to be able to inspire others. We have an opportunity to be sleeve ambassadors.

I've let some know about my sleeve but not everyone. Human nature that some judge you Like why can't you do it the old fashioned way diet and exercise?! Well they may not know your struggle of the 50 lbs you've lost six times over last ten years etc!! Plus the blood pressure that may cause you to stroke or your family genetics. Most I've told I am very well received.

I haven't been too open, but I think if an overweight friend/acquaintance were to ask how I've lost all the weight, I'd have to be honest.

It's funny, of the people I have told, some people are so much more inquisitive than others. I have two friends here who I only told because I needed help translating my application for the surgery into German, and now that it's over, they sort of pretend it never happened. But my best friend from home who has known me since high school always wants all the details. We skype a few times a month and he always asks what I'm eating now, how weight lifting is going, if I've gotten a short haircut yet, etc. German/American cultural difference maybe?

My trickiest arena in telling people about it was how to handle coworkers because I'm not outside friends with most but it's obvious that I took a week off work and I'm slimming down. I told my direct supervisor the whole truth but his wife is a Sleever so I knew he'd understand. I told my two level up boss I had to have "stomach surgery" and left it at that.

With my friends and especially my church folks, I just tell them the truth and ask for prayer/support. I did get asked to lead a group of those who struggle with food addiction at my 12 step. I also got to be an ambassador yesterday to my dental hygienist who, I thought was just being nosy cause she's healthy weight, but she has a 19 year old 300 lb daughter who's considering it. Can't judge a book by the cover.

I'm seeing my body finally pulling fat out of my muffin top area yes! Gb is still fighting me but I'm getting used to the routine and pain.

Does anyone else find if really ouchie to lay on your stomach yet? My whole abdomen from ribs to pelvis feels mushed and pulled when I roll over on my stomach. Not just isolated to gallbladder side. :/

Also realized shellfish/crab for me is a major no go. Sad to be missing out there.

With our changing tummies the shellfish crab maybe an option in the future.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
