Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers

Recommended Posts

That's too bad that you never understood how this works. Nobody loses as fast later as they do at the beginning. The first three months are the fastest you will lose. Then most people average between 8 and 15 pounds per month at most after those first 3 months. You can try to speed up losses by balancing work out and food but simply by calorie reduction in your body will not lose as fast after the first few months. It's a process. Most people from my surgeon will lose all of their excess weight within a year, but the average is 60%.

Ok, not to be a dummy, I know this has been asked before, but... Is excess weight the amount of weight it takes until your BMI is below "overweight," or is it the amount of weight to get to your personal goal?

Broke my 2 1/2 week stall today. Do have a case of the flu though. I literally feel like I've been sick and fatigued ever since I got sleeved and I'm so ready to feel "normal" again.

What are you doing in terms of exercise nowadays?

Any favorite recipes to share?

I DO understand the process actually. And after my initial huge loss the first few weeks I have been steadily losing 8 to 10 lbs a month. The problem is that I haven't lost a single pound in a month now.

I was just looking for support (I thought that's why this website was here) not really expecting to be chastised for my assumed lack of knowledge. Thanks for the support.

Stalls are normal. Sometimes long ones. You can go check in the veteran group and ask them if they had stalls and how long.

Some people get sleeved without being informed. We've all seen those posts where people are like, "I didn't lose ten pounds today and then I ate ice cream and pizza, did I break my sleeve???" I don't think that's what @@4andcounting was saying. I think she was just expressing frustration. It seems like on this thread we're all pretty well informed, so we know stalls will happen and that they're normal and nothing to freak out about. That doesn't make them any less disheartening. And it's fine to remind people that stalls normal, but on a thread like this (which is really about camaraderie I think, right?) I'm not sure how helpful it is to just accuse someone of being uninformed. The internet is tough because we can't tell how people mean for things to sound, but I think if you reread your last two posts @@lylabelle, you might find that they come off a little harsh.

Thank you WhoKnows! I appreciate your post!! I was just feeling frustrated and down on the day I made that post. I know stalls are normal but it doesn't make them any less difficult to deal with especially when you are watching what you eat and exercising. I have to stop myself from going into self pity mode! I know I will start losing again I was just being a whiner on that day!

She said "I'm not losing like I was" and said she was getting upset. I have yet to read if ANYONE who lost the same after 3 months as they did the first 3 months. And there ARE people who are not informed. I remember a few weeks in reading about someone who ate a whole can of chili in an hour because she drank after each bite- no one informed her that's a big no no. So I would think if someone thinks they are going to lose the same speed the whole time they must not be informed on how it the process works. Sorry I'm not great at sugar coating things all the time.

Did you read my post? I said we've all read those posts by uniformed people doing stupid things! Clearly that's not the situation here. And as long as we're going back and quoting people, her entire initial post was:

"Not losing weight like I was and starting to get upset. I know this is a marathon and not a sprint but I am not losing like I was but I haven't changed anything." (Emphasis mine.)

She wasn't even asking a question. She was clearly just venting the frustration most of us feel at some point. I get short with people too when they're complete newbies who start a new threat to ask the same question someone else asked ten minutes earlier, but to me it looked like you jumped on her for no apparent reason, and that's just not what I thought this thread was about. I assumed you started this thread for all of us so we'd have a safe space to talk about what we're experiencing with other people who are on the same timeline. I dunno, all I'm saying is, if people can't vent a bit here, then what's the point?

I get that she was venting. It was simply the statement that she wasn't losing like she was when she started that made me think she assumed she would lose fast the whole time. If you take that statement into context from how I read it, my reply about her not knowing the loss slows down makes sense. If she didn't want response or a different kind of response, sorry I didn't answer how you wanted.

I never said your comment didn't make sense. I just implied it was kinda mean, especially since from the content of her post and given the context in which she made the post (ie, in this specific thread) chances were that she was well aware of the situation. I didn't mean for this to turn into a whole thing. I just wanted to stand up for her because it seemed like her feelings got hurt, and (again, only in the context of this thread) I think that sucks.

First there is a difference between not sugar coating and being rude.

Perhaps my word choice was part of the issue. I said not losing like I was I should have said not losing at all. But as I said I was feeling down that day and just put my feelings out there not thinking about how it might be perceived.

This thread is supposed to be for us to support each while we go through this at the same time, or at least I thought.

WhoKnows, thank you very much! My feelings weren't really hurt. I was actually kinda pissed because I thought who are you to make the assumption that I am not knowledgable about a huge surgery that I spent 6 months researching before I even attempted to have it. I had to change my response because my initial response was pretty hateful. LOL

No worries all is good :)

I wish I had measured at the start ... I didn't at all and so when I go thru a stall I don't have much to go on in terms of if inches are coming off ...

I am someone who has had a sugar issue from the start as most of you know ... I try and control it but it's there ... It's def a tool this sleeve and not the solution I have to be verymindful of what I am eating

Another issue I have as me is that when ppl tell me oh you lost weight I seem to think that means oh yay now I can eat crap again hahahaha

I wore shorts to the beach yesterday for the first time in maybe 6 years so that was An amazing Nsv!

I hate how flabby my thighs and bum are that's really something I need to work on exercise wise

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
