hrhlaurie 185 Posted July 5, 2014 I had some fruit at a friend's house the other day. I didn't get sick or anything, but OH MY GOD! That was the first fruit I've had since my pre-op diet and that stuff tasted like crack candy! So amazing! I need to be careful or my carbs will skyrocket from mellon and strawberries. We had a party last night and I made chicken and pork kabobs and had just a little of them. I also made a large pitcher of watermelon coolers with rum. I tried a couple of tablespoons of my drink and a piece of watermelon and worried about getting sick but didn't. I love watermelon but I'll still limit my fruit to one or two bites since it has so much sugar. My daughter made a cake and asked me to try some so I had a bite that fit on a baby spoon. All in all, a success. I worried about being at a party and how to keep track of food and liquids but it worked out fine. Down another pound this morning but I bet that is from burning calories getting ready for the party!
lylabelle 257 Posted July 5, 2014 I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th! I nibbled on fruit, had a bite of my kids hot dog and even a small slice of a birthday cake. Down a pound this morning! I was reading through a few posts and was reminded that it wasn't the small bites or nibbles that made us large. It was the whole hot dog or burger, with chips, fruit and the cake plus brownies and soda that made us large. There are lots that are doing an amazing job at doing low carb, and maybe I'm the only one in this group that isn't quite so strict in that area. I did this VSG because I've done low carb and other diets ALL my life and I was SO OVER dieting. I'm not tracking calories, but I know from a rough estimate I get sometimes as low as 400 and sometimes up to 1000 (like yesterday when I had that small bit of cake). Looking at a lot of people's progress pics in that thread, most seem to lose between 60-70 in the first 6 months if they started around my weight. Anyway I feel a bit out on an island because so many of you are so strict with your low carb and working out (I'm not there yet, but at some point I know the bug will hit me again and I'll be back at it). I'm 4 pounds away from the 30lb mark. I feel really happy about that. I'm considering trying low carb during the week and relaxing the strict bits on the weekends and seeing how that goes. Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend. I am so thrilled to be home and have a few days off!! 1 bella328i reacted to this

mrsfitzpatrick 15 Posted July 6, 2014 I am envious of all of you eating cake! I bought a "nothing bundt cake" yesterday for my moms bday but didn't eat any out of fear. I've lost so much that I don't want to stop that, but I also don't want to deprive myself. I haven't eaten any carbs other than a super small amount of rice and some udon noodles. Other than that, I eat a lot of Soup and puddings. I don't want to be afraid to eat, but I don't want to blow it either. I guess it just depends on how you feel you can lose weight with what you eat. I am having a hard time with exercising because I'm having bad lower back pain the last 3 days, so I've been in bed all day today. I doubt it's surgery related, but I'm watching it closely. If it continues, I'm going to have to suck it up and go to the dr. 10lbs away from 200-land so I'm excited! 1 hrhlaurie reacted to this
WhoKnows 288 Posted July 6, 2014 The only starchy carbs I've had so far (so carbs not from veggies, fruit or legumes) has been quinoa (in small amounts) and yesterday at my 5th of July party (the 4th wasn't a holiday here, obviously, so I waited til the weekend) where I had three noodles from a friend's Pasta salad to be polite. It's not that I don't think other people can have bites of cake or bread or whatever and keep it at that, it's that I know I can't. Starch is basically my crack. I need to continue using the honeymoon period to detox and "get sober," so to speak. I'm doing well so far. When there's food around I would normally have wanted, I'm doing much better at controlling myself. So far I've always had some healthy alternative, so that's been good. I'm losing slowly, but it's mostly been steady. I haven't had anything that counts as a real stall, so fingers crossed! Now I just gotta worry about that hair loss that's gonna be creeping up... I agree with you. My weakness was carbs and my diet weaknesses were Pasta, nachos, pizza... see a theme? Carbs loaded with melted cheese. I'm so grateful that this surgery removed most of my hunger and food cravings. Right now, I'm good with Protein and as long as it lasts, I'm going to keep it up. Some day I'll have a nacho again but, since I know the foods full of empty calories are where I might overeat, I'll hold off for now. This is major surgery, and what I consider my last chance to have a healthy, slimmer body. I don't want to mess it up by giving in to non-protein foods too early. I did have a little piece of watermelon yesterday and it tasted sooooo good. Now, that bite was a treat! That said, I'm still eating too fast. That's been the hardest bad habit to unlearn. 3 WhoKnows, bella328i and devint reacted to this
jajmj 40 Posted July 6, 2014 I was at 261.6 last Monday with. SW of 280. That was right before I passed out and broke both bones in my ankle. My RIGHT ankle. My gas pedal driving ankle. So that being. Said - not sure when I'm going to be able to get on a scale again to get a true weight since I have this ankle splinted, partially casted and wrapped to the hilt until further notice. Not to mention I would have to be able to stand ON the scale and balance. I can't see that happening for the next several weeks. I do have my follow up with my Bariatric surgeon on Wednesday so will see what he says. I found that I get nauseous if I am laying down/reclined when I eat and drink so it's been fun to keep my foot elevated while in bed while sitting up while fighting nausea. You get the picture. And the lortab for pain makes me nauseous as well so no pain meds for me for the ankle. So ask you can see - I'm on an adventure. Stay tuned cuz Friday I meet with my Orthopaedic surgeon to see what he has in store for me and for how long. Could be interesting since the first two weekends in August I am traveling. Cross your fingers for me. I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend.
blondebomb 580 Posted July 6, 2014 I have not been working out hardly at all in the "go to the gym" sense but I'm challenging myself to up my step count and have been logging both steps and food religiously for 17 days today My high was 11k but I was shocked and embarrassed to find that my "normal" routine only had me about 3500 steps per day! That's very couch potato! So I've been pushing myself to find new ways to step more (even doing 100 steps in the stall each time I go to the bathroom which, because of my Water intake, is a lot!) I have also tried to increase my workload around the house with things like laundry, dishes and vacuuming. Big problem is I still get lightheaded when I bend over and come back up from postural hypotension, so it can be challenging/annoying to lose my balance/focus. My dr said, keep it at light cardio type activities with no lifting over 20 lbs and no jiggling/pounding so even jogging is off limits till my next appointment in a few weeks. My favorite foods right now are chicken waldorf salad, greek yogurt (eat it everyday!), Peanut Butter and hummus. I read a great article yesterday on Bariatric Foodie for one ingredient add-ins to spice up Protein shakes and I am amazed that my love of Protein Shakes could be renewed but it is! I had one with unflavored Protein, chocolate fudge sf pudding 1/2 a box, and 3 drops of coconut extract. It was seriously like drinking a mounds bar, so good. This morning I had vanilla protein with "TrueOrange" which is orange essence crystals, no sugar. CREAMSICLE oh man it was good. So SF pudding mixes, just a few drops of extract, or the "TrueOrange, TrueLemon, TrueLimes" make a world of difference and make me look forward to Protein Shakes again!! I take bariactiv Vitamins, 2 chewable Multivitamins, 2 chewable calcium+d, 1 Iron, and nasal B12 every monday. I also do the Calcium chewables at night (when I remember) because the bariactiv calls for two doses per day but i just never get around to the second dose, but a caramel sweetie somehow gets me to take it Gents move on, but for ladies esp anyone pcos… I have really bad pcos, to the point the fertility dr said nothing i can do to help you just go lose weight and hope. Post op I was told that oral contraception wasn't reliable for bc and for regulating the hormones enough to maintain a regular cycle. So I'm also supplementing with 550 mg dong quai root, which is an herbal, but it has a blood thinner effect and also draws blood to the pelvic region which helps both with cycles and with Constipation. It's also supposed to help calm tom and stop pain and cramps. I can feel a huge difference even though I haven't had tom since surgery I can feel it coming hopefully soon. I have also noticed that the pain in my ovaries has all but disappeared, no stabbing/pulling feelings. So I'm hoping its working some magic for me, because the pill itself tastes gross so it's a pain to have to take it everyday. Thank you for the Awsome flavor suggestions! I'm going to be stocking up tday an tomorrow my surgery is Tuesday. ..I did order the fruit flavored protein packets from bariatric to add to Water to make sure I get all the protein requirements. .. WhoKnows 288 Posted July 7, 2014 @@Skinnyana, if you're not drinking Water, what are you drinking? Anyway, my weekly weigh in: as of today I am 230lb, which means I've lost 22lb since surgery, and 35lb overall. This week I started going to the gym and I actually lost 3.5lb, which was more than my slow and steady pace of roughly 1.5-2lb had been, so I'm quite pleased! 3 blondebomb, barbb3 and Monte0828 reacted to this
barbb3 115 Posted July 7, 2014 Hw 243 Sw 235 Cw 211 As far as Vitamins go I take a chewable Centrum with Iron, 5000 mcg B12 sublingual and 1000-1500 mg Bariatric Advantage chewable calcium citrate. Favorite meals? I am still on "strained" food for another week but have started to transition myself to solids slowly just this weekend. For Breakfast I still have plain greek yogurt and stir in some fruit and I still have Soup for at least one meal a day. My one disappointment is that the weight is not coming off in my tummy like it seems to be else where. I know it is just a matter of time but it sure but be nice to see THAT start to disappear! Have a good Monday everyone!! 1 Monte0828 reacted to this
Sh3iz 36 Posted July 7, 2014 HW 315 Sw 300 CW 271 Slow weight loss this week but I know I wasn't getting all my Protein and liquids everyday. My aunt however said I looked great! I see a huge difference already- unfortunately I stand in front of a mirror alllll day long so I can't help but to look 1 blondebomb reacted to this
