bvernon 4 Posted July 3, 2014 I discovered recently that my allergy to whey Protein is getting much worse. The allergy specialist told me that I really need to avoid all milk and dairy products because they contain whey. I need some advice from others who may already eat a dairy free diet successfully about what things to try. 1 Bandista reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted July 3, 2014 Can you fill in your profile or give us some information as to where you are in your journey? It's hard to advise not knowing if you're banded now, or to be banded, or you're 3 years out?
rigonj 103 Posted July 3, 2014 My cousin has the same problem. She recently started using hemp Protein. I haven't done much research on it yet but it doesn't seem to bother her and she is extremely sensitive to dairy. Hope this helps 1 bvernon reacted to this
SillyAuntDi 1,610 Posted July 3, 2014 I'm glad you sent me a PM Anytime I can help, I'll be glad to. I've had my whey allergy for many years now. I've learned how to work around it. I know what foods set me off and what foods I can tolerate, but it's certainly a learning process. As I mentioned, I use an Egg Protein powder from GNC. I tried a pea Protein Powder...but it tasted like the dirt the peas grew in. Yuck. I'm open to new options as well, and keep looking around. I'll share with you if I find any others 3 bvernon, Bandista and TRU reacted to this
Bandista 7,466 Posted July 3, 2014 I've had some good pea Protein Shakes -- recommend going to a coop or health food store and seeing what samples are available, or purchase single packs to see what you like best. Many places let you return something you don't like -- Vitamin Shoppe for example. The egg Protein Shake I like is some guy's name -- can't remember but could find it on a shelf. I don't do many Protein shakes these days but if I do it's all about the frozen peaches. 2 bvernon and SillyAuntDi reacted to this
bvernon 4 Posted July 3, 2014 Thanks for all of the advice. I am two years out from being banded and my whey allergy was discovered early in my journey but I was always able to eat cheese and most milk products until recently. Kind of struggling trying to deal with no dairy and carrying an epipen everywhere. 1 Bandista reacted to this
SillyAuntDi 1,610 Posted July 3, 2014 It's funny, Bandista...I describe that egg Protein almost the same way...some guy's name on it. But, I found it to be incredibly salty. I took it back to Vitamin Shoppe 1 Bandista reacted to this
Bandista 7,466 Posted July 3, 2014 @@bvernon does this include sheep's milk and goat cheeses? I know there are different Proteins people are allergic to and some people who can't tolerate cow can have Manchega, etc. My husband is GF and our kid can't do dairy of any kind (Asian). Epipen, yikes! Good luck with all......
