Lisa Coffin 11 Posted July 2, 2014 Hello and welcome to the group! My surgery is the day before yours and I started liquids on Monday, it was the worst day so far. It gets better. Just make sure you get your Protein Shakes in and Water, lots of water.

Elayna01 5 Posted July 4, 2014 So this is Day 3 of preop liquid diet. I checked my blood sugar this morning. Very surprised that it was 148. Why so high? Taking meds and less than 6grams of sugar in each Meal Replacement drink. 2 drinks per meal. Any thoughts?
playlikeworldchamps 595 Posted July 4, 2014 So this is Day 3 of preop liquid diet. I checked my blood sugar this morning. Very surprised that it was 148. Why so high? Taking meds and less than 6grams of sugar in each meal replacement drink. 2 drinks per meal. Any thoughts? Sounds like Dawn phenomenon or Somogyi effect. The first is when the body starts putting out sugar to get you ready for the day. The second is when you don't have much to eat the night before which during pre op could be the case. Elayna01 5 Posted July 4, 2014 Thanks! Just read about it. I will check sugar later on to see if it's still elevated. I think my body is in shock! Not used to this for sure!
haleytrim 244 Posted July 4, 2014 I have just decided to have weight loss surgery and have made the decision to have the gastric sleeve. I am still in the process of choosing a surgeon. I am excited about what I believe will be a brighter more active future but am nervous at the same time. I have been doing a lot of research and have seen so much great advice on this site. I know that I will find the information and encouragement I need to get through this difficult challenge. Thanks in advance everyone.
Elayna01 5 Posted July 4, 2014 Just realized something. My bmi is 35.2 and I have type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My surgery has been approved by insurance and I am scheduled for July 15th. On preop liquid diet and lost 5 lbs in 2 days. WHAT IF MY BMI GOES BELOW THE REQUIREMENT FOR SURGERY?
