How long should a liquid 'meal' take to eat?

Recommended Posts

I have been setting my timer to stop drinking before 'meals'. I have some blended Soup that i have been working on for the past hour. This means that for the four ounces of eventual intake, I will be off of my drinking for about 2-4 hours. In this heat, is it wise to eat, or wiser to just keep drinking? I'm 6 days post-op

Hey Latido, since I'm only 2 weeks post-surgery, I'm going to refer to the WLS manual for gastric bypass that was given to me. This is what it says:

"When planning meal time, STOP drinking any liquids 30 minutes prior to meal and do not resume until 30 minutes past the conclusion of the meal. Meals should last NOT less than 20 minutes and not more than 30 minutes."

This is what I use - and I hope it helps you! Blessings!

I went for my one week post-op today, and was cleared for purees. I came home and tried pureed, and it went down extremely easy. So far so good. I've been able to manage to get it in at around one hour. So it worked out well. I guess I'm just less swollen by now. liquids bloat me instantly, food does not. Go figure.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
