I am new to this but would love any advice I can get... I just got my approval today and will be having surgery mid august. I have read as much as I could but would love some first hand advice about what to expect, and also suggestions for before and after surgery. Any advice will be greatly appreciated ????

Gastric Sleeve surgery shrinks a patient's stomach and help them to lose weight therefore it is absolutely necessary to be ready for this change.Try changing your diet as it is better to prepare your body on living on less food.Try incorporating protein-rich liquid meals for before and after your surgery. Also try and prepare your support group which will help you face your surgery with a positive frame of mind.

I would suggest that you keep checking this site as often as you can...this helped me a great deal! Mostly because you will find many people at many stages of the journey, and all will have good advice as they share their journey with everyone else. For starters, one bit of advice I can give is please don't continually compare your progress to everyone else's...I know it's easier said than done, but please try to avoid this. We are all all individuals who progress differently, and weight loss is not at all a competition, but a healthy journey that 'YOU' will do great in!!!

So I just got my surgery date!!! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. My mind is all over the place now not sure where to start to prep myself for right before surgery and also after. What Vitamins, food prep, what to take to the hospital and anything else I might not think about. I could really use some suggestions or any advice. Thanks for the support

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
