my insurance will not cover lap band for anyone over 50 bmi but will cover me for the bypass - I need to lose 43 pounds to go below 50 bmi - next hurdle is that my insurance may change in July so I really only have about 6 weeks to lose 43 pounds and still have time for surgery - anyone have advice - is this doable????

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't they cover lapband but would cover bypass with is like 100 times more risky? Have you talked with them or maybe have your MD talk with them. My MD was all for the lapband but told me no, no no!! for bypass.

talked with insurance, they say that lapband may not be as successful for someone with over 50 bmi - makes no sense to me - my doc also wants me to have lapband - I guess that I will have to lose until I hit BMI of 49.9 then get approved for lapband
