I am so bummed. I can't believe I go through all the classes, the surgeon opens up his July calendar for me to book my surgery on July 7th so I can still go on my vacation and everything is going great, when all of a sudden while on vacation I get sick. They thought it was strep throat but I'm not better after a round of antibiotics. Throat is still hurting, glands are swollen and sore and new symptom is swollen gums with sores in my mouth! Went to my primary care doctor today. He says he thinks it's viral and most likely a really bad case of mono! You got to be kidding me! And to top it off he says I am way to sick to have my surgery on Monday. I won't get well enough soon enough. I don't know what to make of it all. If I had the surgery on Monday it would have worked out

Perfectly for my schedule because I don't have to be back to work for 4 weeks. Ahhhh!

What a misfortunate streak of bad luck! Mono is NO fun and for it to throw off your surgery date... ARRGHHHH...

I was worried about timing, too because I have a vacation in Belize planned in August and didn't want to have my surgery too close to that date. The last week before surgery it seemed like there was a holdup in approval and that it might delay things. It did work out but I had a week of major stress in there.

Take time healing from the mono and don't try to push for the surgery. You really need to be as healthy as possible going into it. It may take another month or two but on the grand scheme of life, it's just a little speed bump and you'll get past it soon enough.

Best wishes!

Thanks all. I'm starting to feel a little better. I started taking antiviral medication a couple if days ago. I think they are working. Today's the first day I've really eaten all week.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I had surgery scheduled for July 2nd and I went to the hospital and I ended up having a low grade fever that got much higher right before surgery. They sent me home. I know how your feeling I am so sorry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
