HAD MY BAND+Gastric Plication Weight Loss Surgery YESTERDAY

Recommended Posts

Dr. sent me home right after, and I felt great yesterday -- but have been feeling yucky all day. Well, worse as the day goes on. I feel like I have MORE gas inside of me today (I know, not possible), but I am expelling it, which I guess is good. I've had some Water and a couple Protein drinks today. I'm just wondering if anyone remembers their day after surgery. What was it like? I feel like I need some support, so I'm turning to total strangers in this forum. Thanks.

That is perfectly normal. After any insult to the body, including surgery, you're going to feel the worst at 24-48 hours after. It gets better - very gradually - after the 48 hour mark.

At this stage all you can do is sip, sip, sip, take pain meds as ordered, and walk, walk, walk. Rinse and repeat.

Hi manofsize, I had my op 4 days ago and today is the first morning i woke up feeling human, been feeling very weak and wobbly so far.

I'm off to my docs in a minte b/c ive got blurry vision which maybe caused by one of the anti sickness meds.

I know what you mean about support from strangers! I joined this forum just a few hours after i came round as i just wanted to talk to people who had it done. tbh i wasnt expecting to feel this rubbish. but the plication is big surgery...

We can support eachother! Best wishes

Yes, the first few days I felt like I got hit by a mack truck. I even had regrets. It does pass and by day 6 you will feel pretty good. It is a gradual thing and each day is better.

SandyM... I read this reply -- about being hit by a mack truck -- in the wee hours of the morning and, strangely, it made me feel so much better. The problem I realized I'm having is more a psychological one than a physical one -- I feel like "oh, ****, this is only happening to me" -- and it's so great to have support of others who are going through the same thing at apx. the same time. So thank so much for this. I had the surgery on Monday and it's only Wednesday -- so I have some days to go before I'm feeling okay. But I love this forum -- it's giving me the support I need. Thank you.

Hi manofsize

Thank you yes much better today. GP took me off one anti sickness. Forgot what its called - a patch behind ear thats changed every 3 days - may take a few days to clear from my system but blurriness definitely improved in the 12 hours ive been off. He thinks the amount of mefs ive been given is overkill anyway...im sure my consultant knows best though...on the other hand it doesnt feel right taking so much so tosay ive had anti coagulant, nurofen, diclofenac only.

Other knew developments:

my tummys been rumbling so bad!! Cant do alot about it either.

Ive lost 2.5kgs since saturday!

Still no number 2 despite taking laxative yesterday.

How have you been today?

Thanks for asking. Well, it's been about 48 hours -- seems like 48 days! -- and I'm feeling a little bit better. Actually had some Soup just now (first time I've been hungry) and took a shower and cleaned up a bit....major miracle. But now I'm exhausted and am going back to bed. Yeah, a lot of stomach rumbling -- and when oh when will I stop farting? Did you drive yourself to the doctor? I cannot imagine driving myself anywhere. I guess we all take different amount of time to get there. Again: thanks for asking, and I'm glad your vision is no longer blurry.

Yes I thought I was pretty strong until after my surgery. 2 days in

the recliner then I could get in and out of bed. I had the worse gas pains in my shoulder for weeks. I survived. Good Luck to you.

Lol, at time I had surgery I was a home health nurse. Day 3 I went back to work, yes climbing in and out of a tiny honda civic all day. Whew! I wouldn't relive that day or the next. But, believe it or not you will be able to drive.

No def not driving yet.if nothing else it would invalidate my insurance :-0 i live in a village - doc, shop, school, post office, chemist etc all within walkung distance. So until i go back to work i wont need to drive. That said im currently on a bus going 3 miles into nearest town bc apparently we NEED white loom bands ;-) im going to take it v slow tho cos its hot & actually quite pleased to be out village.

Glad to hear youve showered etc. & reassuring youre hungry too. Im finding ice lollies helpful for that, they go down so much better than a drink.

Are you on myfitnesspal? Im tracking my food & weight on there. Username the same

I realized something yesterday: I have spent so much time from minute-to-minute focusing on "how am I feeling" and "is everything going to be okay?" and "is this surgery going to work" -- and I'm only at Day #4! So last night, I decided to watch a TV show I like -- and it took my mind off of it (and me). And so today, my goal is to do things that aren't related to my WLS -- like I'm going to do some work (at home) and writing (at home) and clean up a bit and do some walking -- i.e., semi-normal things. I'm not quite ready to jump in the car and go places (although I could), but that is my goal for tomorrow. i.e., I want to get out of my head and back into my life. I think it'll help.

Thats the spirit! Hows it going?

Hi, K. I think this is my breakthrough day. (I'm about to give you T.M.I. -- Too Much Information): It's Day 4 and I had a bowel movement today. I was shocked. I thought it would take weeks, what with all the liquids I've been drinking. And then my son gave me a 9-1-1 call that he'd locked his keys in his car and needed me to bring him his extra set. I hadn't driven yet -- well, I did today -- for about an hour. Baby steps. And baby poop. But I felt like I'm moving forward. I've also decided that naps are about "healing" the scars/stitches on my stomach, so I'm letting myself doze off as much as possible. Tomorrow's goal is to get on my treadmill and walk -- slowly! - for about 20 minutes. I think by then I'll be able to do that. Tuesday I have to go back to work (teaching) and I'm sure I'll be ready for that. But enough about me ... how are you doing??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
