less than 24 hours til surgery

Recommended Posts

Well I have less than 24 hours til surgery. I am excited, can't wait to start losing weight and being healthier. I have been faithful on my pre-op diet so I am curious as to how much I lost this week. I am looking at this last week as a running start .

Any and all suggestions and helpful tips for my post op first few days would be great. I am on Clear liquids until I am home from the hospital and then on liquids for 3 weeks, which means foods thinned down enough so it slides off of a spoon.

Wish me luck

Yes, enjoy. Even when it is uncomfortable, it is for you!! You deserve this new life. So, keep that in mind. Also, i didn't know about this site pre-op but they have a list of comfort stuff you may want to check out. i wish i had. Also, if one side hurts more then the other to sleep (some people have port side uncomfortableness), get one of those pads that simulate a tepurpedic bed. I had given my daughter one, wasn't expensive, got it in Walmart, and I used it to make life easier after surgery. It helped alot!!!

Good luck with your surgery, Wishing you amazing success, As for suggestions having someone rub your back and shoulder after surgery does wonders also you might have a burping sensation but won't be able to burp so having someone to pat your back helps with that. Also a spare pillow on hold so you can squish it up against your belly if you need to cough..

Other than that rest up and take care.. Good luck again with the surgery how very exciting for you WoooHooooooo

Good Luck! I was banded on Friday and feeling pretty good. If you have read the post op threads you are probably aware of the myriad of things people experience, some universal, some unique. My only cautionary tale is, I thought my incisions would bust open watching Talk Soup on E and the Colbert Report on comedy central. Then when my husband started roaring it made me laugh even more- so- ban the laughter. Kidding of course laughter is great medicine, just have a pillow handy to hold your belly. :)

With how I felt and reading all the other posts of "soon to be banded" folks, I think that the one thing that pops out the most is " I DONT WANT TO DIE!!!" BUT, if you really think about this, heart disease is the number killer of women, which is what is going to happen to us IF we dont DO SOMETHING FOR US!!! I think that dying going into any surgery is in the front of everyones mind but the risk is SO very small that we need to concentrate on the heart disease that is killing us every time we shove our faces full of artery clogging foods!!! GOOD LUCK YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Deanna

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
