Well, I got tired of walking and exercising in front of my TV, so I joined 24 Hour Fitness yesterday and went for my first workout today! I was so nervous going in, but quickly saw all the different body shapes and ages. Yes, there were some buffed out guys lifting weights, but they paid no attention to me. Tomorrow I'm going to take the aqua class (it's one of the Super Sports Centers, so they have everything) and next Tuesday I get my free orientation so I can learn all about the big, scary machines, LOL!

Anyway, I'm excited for this next new phase in my weight loss journey!

How much time do you have post op? I started gym yesterday but I do things afraid because My brain is so stupid that keeps on sending negative thoughts like "you will faint because you are not eating enough" . What do you do so you dont feel weak?

I just joint a gym yesterday too. I have never walked into one before and never walked around the block but I made the first step. I too felt very comforable and they were really nice people. I am five weeks and 1 day post op and got my clearance Friday to do upper and lower body cardio. I have to take baby steps. This was quite a shock for this body!

Congrats on joining the gym. I joined an LA Fitness in May, and yeah it was intimidating seeing all of the fit people. But everyone is in their own zone, and they really do not pay attention to you at all. But in looking closer there are lots of people.. older, younger, pregnant, super fit, just starting out and veterans.

Yescobar, have a snack about 30 minutes before you go to the gym. Something with Protein and a bit of fat to keep you feeling full. Maybe some lunch meat like chicken or turkey, and a piece of string cheese. I also try to eat closer to 1200 calories on the days I work out, rather than eat less, I eat a bit more.

I'll be 9 weeks post op tomorrow. I've been walking since the beginning and did Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds (2 mile brisk walk) at 4 weeks- which I highly recommend, by the way! I added some hand weights a week ago and then decided on the gym to really make sure I'm getting the full potential of a workout. I average about 600 calories a day, which is pretty low, but all I can manage at this point, and I've never once felt too weak. I was hesitant at first, too, but my energy level has really increased!

I joined LifeTime fitness a few years ago and have gotten a lot out of it. If the budget can stretch, it helps to work out with a personal trainer for a few sessions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
