gruiz27 218 Posted July 1, 2014 Can I take Protein Bars instead of the shakes?
Forsythia 882 Posted July 2, 2014 Pre-op, yes. If you have to do a liquid diet two weeks pre-op then you can eat them until that point. Post op - no, not until you are allowed back on a full solids diet. Which, depending on your surgeon could be one month or several months! My biggest issue with the bars is that a lot of them are full of sugar/carbs, so you really have to eyeball the labels! 1 BeagleLover reacted to this

Forsythia 882 Posted July 2, 2014 I would say go ahead and try them. Can't hurt, especially if you are not getting all your Protein in. If you have more questions, talk to your NUT, he or she can clarify!

Chelly 364 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) Quest bars are the best..... No sugar. They are made with Stevia. Low carbs. Protein is either 20 or 21 grams. High in Fiber.< /p> Come in many flavors. They were approved by my nutritionist. Edited July 2, 2014 by Chelly 1 emilypaige reacted to this
terry1118 1,274 Posted July 2, 2014 Mine, too! I love cookies&cream and apple pie flavors. Also, because they're not covered in chocolate like so many bars, they can be kept in my car and purse for those times when I need a little something to tide me over till I can get a real meal. :-) 1 BigGirlPanties reacted to this
Sparklingbeauty53 202 Posted July 2, 2014 Hands down the Quest bars rock! I bought a sample pack to see what I liked and I liked the majority of them. 1 betty_s reacted to this
betty_s 476 Posted July 2, 2014 I'll back Quest bars as well. Bake a cookie dough one in the oven for 5 mins and its like a fresh baked cookie. Or bake a brownie one and top it with a little cool whip. Heaven! Cookies and cream, apple pie, and pb&j i like just on their own.
BigGirlPanties 957 Posted July 2, 2014 I didn't know about heating up the Cookies and cream @ betty_s that sounds good...warm is always more satisfying... So I am here to agree with Quest bars...also have had Power Crunch which have a lighter texture if you find the Quest too much...usually 1/2 a Quest bar at a time fills you up... but check with your Dr or NUT (as suggested) to make sure you can have them ... they may want you to wait or a certain brand... 1 emilypaige reacted to this
KarenElaine 44 Posted August 9, 2014 Just learned from this site this week about Quest bars. I'm pre-op. Found some on base at Vitamin World. I bought White chocolate and Raspberry and the Chocolate Brownie. I tried the brownie yesterday and immediately decided I can easily do without sugar in my diet! These things are awesome. When I visited my son in California a couple months ago I found them at his favorite nutrition store, too, so they seem widely available. You can also buy them online. :-)
