Which calcium do you use post op-need examples please

Recommended Posts

i was using a drinkable liquid Calcium for the past few months and just CANNOT now that i'm post op. it just doesn't sit well at ALL.

i asked my nut and she said i could maybe try a petite version of regular Calcium and use a pill cutter, or look for a chewable.< /p>

does anybody know of a good chewable calcium OR other option? maybe Viactiv? Gummy? i'm not sure which to try and don't want to do anything wrong. i'm only 8 days post op but doing awesome and don't want to mess up anything!

I've noticed a lot of people using Bariatric Advantage chewy bites or Celebrate chewable Calcium. You can get them on Amazon, bariatric specialty websites, etc. You have to be really careful with gummies and brands that are not specifically made for people who have had bariatric surgery, as they are often made with calcium carbonate which is not what you need - be sure to look for something with calcium citrate. Good luck!

I take Citracal currently...I'm far enough out that a swallowable Vitamin is okay, but I still take the 'petite' ones (which aren't terribly petite). chewable calcium citrate seems really expensive (all the money I'm saving by not eating I'm spending in Vitamins =P Worth it though!)

I did take Caltrate for a bit...mostly because I was in the store and couldn't remember which type of Calcium I needed. My NUT was unhappy to say the least that I was taking the incorrect form. Unfortunately, a majority of the chewable calcium I managed to find in the stores around here was all carbonate. I was very glad to go to a swallowable pill.

My doctor and NUT frown upon gummies.

I recently switched to BA chewable Caramel because the chewable pills were making me nauseous. The Caramel is almost a treat! I got the 500 mg so I only need to take 3 a day. I know you can get them on Amazon. I have gotten them from MyBariatricPantry...my favorite shop lately. When I checked they were cheaper than Amazon. I'm sure it's available direct from BA, but I haven't checked.

My doctor and NUT also frown on gummies too

I've been using the Bariatric Advantage chews. They were recommended by my nutritionist. I like them and feel they're working well. I get them (and all my vitamins) from www.bariatricchoice.com - the site is a lot less expensive than Amazon and had great customer service.

very good, it seems like Bariatric Advantage seems to be the front runner. i called the nut back and she agreed, said to get online and see about them, she would endorse my using them. perfect!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
