surgery in a week

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for my revision on July 8th. I'm having second thoughts and cold feet. My band removal was 3 months ago and an emergency, so I didnt have a chance to worry about it or even think about it. I was in so much pain, unable to eat or drink, so it was the right choice as the band slipped.

Now one week to go. Im on liquids for the week, have gone thru all my preop testing. I'm just freaking out a bit.

Im wondering how much I'll even loose as im 5'5 and 199 pounds. Everyone says revisions loose slower. How slow?

Thankfully my insurance is covering it, well I had to pay 3.5k as my surgeon is out of network.

I know overall its the right decision as I don't ever want to see 350 pounds again.

Hi Leena, I can only tell you what others here are telling me. And that is to hang in there. I'm freaking out too and sitting here waiting for my Dr's office to call me back with a date to have my band revision. I'm 5' 3" and weigh 213. I haven't even started the liquid diet phase yet. I'll keep you in prayer and ask the same for me. Keep in touch!

I'm just curious about insurance and revisions. If there is a complication would insurance cover it? When my port flipped my insurance covered it but if I ever had a major complication and was advised to revise to the sleeve, I'm wondering if I would be covered. I ask because I was told that most insurance companies will only allow one type of WLS. Just curious.

I have a different insurance than the one I had 7 years ago with the band. I can tell you the new insurance BCBS covered removal and revision. My band slipped and had to be removed in an emergency procedure so it came out and then got approved /covered by insurance.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
