When eating, air/bloating in stomach?

Recommended Posts

I have noticed since the first day after surgery, every time I eat or drink a meal, I get air in my stomach. Sometimes it is painful. Most of the time, I have to stop and wait to burp. So unladylike! When I asked my NUT about this she said eat slower and take smaller bites. Any smaller and they will be crumbs. Does anyone else have this problem? Solutions?

I am almost 4 weeks out and have the same issue. I will see my surgeon in the morning and hopefully I can get an answer.

I'm at 4 1/2 weeks out I'm kind of having the same issue - although it's not as I eat or drink, but afterwards, I can feel the air rising up to a burp and that can last up to an hour. No real pain though so I'm wondering if it's acid reflux or intaking too much air as I eat/drink?

I had the same issue. I know it sounds weird....but I started walking around when I would drink/eat. For me...it helped. I also would walk about 15/20 minutes after I ate as well. I'm 12 days out and no longer have that problem anymore.

eat slowly. chew well. your bites might be small, but you might gulping - this can lead to lots of extra air being swallowed with food. also make sure you are waiting 30-45 min after drinking to eat. eat 3-5 bites. then wait before eating more. when i had burping and bloating i was eating too fast, too much and not chewing well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
