Post plastic surgery weight gain

Recommended Posts

So I was wondering if anyone experienced weight gain right after having plastic surgery? I had a Tummy Tuck, arm lift, breast lift and augmentation last Tuesday and went from 113lbs to 129lbs. It's kinda freaking me out!!

your body is recovering from major surgery. i imagine there is all kinds of swelling trauma that it is trying to recover from. i had a brest augmentation done a few yrs back while i don't recall what my weight did i do recall the long recovery period. Don't focus too much on what the scale says right now. give it at least 3 weeks min as that is how long i was told before i would even being to fell normal again.

just deep breaths eat well and take care of your self :)

I was told they put a ton of fluids in me. If you drink lots of Water post op and eat clean you will lose it. Mine is coming down now from my 6/23 surgery.

I was about 2 weeks post op before I weighed myself... I had gained about 8-9 pounds I think mostly from fluid/swelling. I floated around in the 5-8 pounds higher for months... It was probably 4-5 months post op before my weight reflected the 5.5# of skin removal.

My appetite went through the roof after plastics.... increased need for fuel for healing. I had to work hard to eat Protein and not let my eating get out of control. Some people gain weight due to appetite.

I am a bit surprised how much you gained, but, Fluid is amazingly heavy!

Perfectly normal. Freeked me out too, when I gained about 20 lbs after TT/Panni. Takes 4-6 months till you see the final result. Wear compression at least 4 months, it helps with swelling and the final result

How are you feeling? I am hoping to do a Tummy Tuck this fall. How long did they say you'd be out of work?

I thought I was the only unlucky one who gained weight after Tummy Tuck and breast lift. I am also a nurse and I know it's the Fluid. But oddly enough every time I gain even a pound or two I feel like I gained back the 90 pounds I just lost. All head games. My surgery was in April and my tummy is really flat but doctor says there is still swelling and it will still go down more.

You look great!! I just had my first check up and I told him how much I gained after the surgery and he was shocked but said its all from the surgery and that by the time all the swelling goes away I will weigh a few pounds less then before I had the surgery

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
