ssrowe 4 Posted June 30, 2014 My surgery date is tomorrow. July 1, 2014. I am excited and nervous. Physically what should I expect from the surgery? Emotionally I am on a roller coaster right now. I know this is the right decision. I just don't want to fail. The liquid diet has not been so bad. Any words of advice to get through the next couple weeks. Thanks. labwalker 1,177 Posted June 30, 2014 Well, they will roll you into surgery, and you'll be chatting with the doctors and staff.... and the next thing you know will be when you wake in recovery.... ther first thing through you mind is "did I have surgery?" When you realize you're a bit sore you'll realize that the surgery is behind you!!! It is a great feeling, and a relief! You will be SORE for a few days... the port placement area will be the worst. It will bother you a bit a night.... most doc's perscribe some pain meds--I didn't need them. Everyone is different, and every surgery is a bit different. After several days most of the pain will go away... the pain, at least for me, was very bearable. If I slept in a bad postion, the sutures would let me know! Follow the post op diet! Once you wake up in recovery your journey has just begun. Give your body several weeks to heal and settle in--there are sutures on the band and port, and the body has to heal, and the swelling has to go down. Eventually you will start having fills. Don't get discouraged if you gain a bit of weight back!! The pre-op diet sheds a lot of fluids, and some weight regain is normal. It may take up to three or four months to find the right fill level before you start to see the benefits of the band. Be patient, and you will be fine. Make sure to do your follow up visits! 4 Makinchanges4me, ssrowe, Colleen C and 1 other reacted to this
Colleen C 169 Posted June 30, 2014 I had surgery on the 20th of June. It was all pretty simple. I call it a drive through surgery. (for some) The 2nd day was painful for me, the surgery seemed to flare up my fibro problems. I took some of the meds I had for it and everything was back to normal. Just walked around A LOT even in the night. I didn't have any gas pains that I noticed. I think everyone is different though so your experience will fall somewhere in all of it. The only problem I feel I have is feeling hungry, I don't feel any restriction yet. I still have tender spots and am not comfy on my left side sleeping.< /p> Try not to worry, I am sure you spent many days thinking about this. It will all work out. Goodluck to you! ssrowe 4 Posted July 7, 2014 Thanks everyone- Surgery went well. I have had some gas pain in my shoulder but increased my walking and the heating pad seemed to help. Back to work today but taking it slow and steady.
