How long can I expect my hair to keep falling out for? I am almost 4 months post op and my hair is falling out for the past couple of weeks. I am lucky I suppose as I had thick long hair but it is now beginning to look a lot thinner but I am worried about how much more I can expect to loose.

My hair thinned considerably for the 1st 9 months, but then it came back with a vengeance! After a year, it was as thick as ever. During this time, you're still going through the fallout phase. There's the hair that was ready to fall out and then there's the hair that will fall out from the trauma from surgery. So it looks like your hair is thinning, but really it's the normal process speeded up. Just be sure to keep your Protein intake high, that will help.

I empathize with you! My hair was thin before, butthe weight loss really accelerated the thinning. Even with extra Iron and Protein supplementation, which I was religious about. I cut my long hair short at six months because it was looking so bad. I don't feel like I'm losing hair as quickly any more, but my weight loss has slowed down a great deal as well. It seems that the weight loss/hair loss link is strong!

I had about 3 mths of stay hairless. Not I have tons of new baby hairs coming in. They are about 1.5 inches long already. It will pass, hang in there. It is temporary. Just stay on point with your diet and Vitamins.< /p>

I ended up cutting my long hair because it got so thin. My hairdresser thought I might have a thyroid problem, so went and had that checked. It wasn't that! I have increased by Protein, by having a Protein Shake everyday, and using Ovation. It is starting to grow back. I am a little over 6 months post op. I will take being thinner and having no hair, to being fat and having hair.

I guess thinking about things I am more worried about my hair as I have hid behind it for so long, so having it fall out has been a massive shock to the system. After reading your replies and speaking to my husband I came to that conclusion and decided that tomorrow morning I am phoning my hairdresser to see if she can fit me in for a cut rather than my usual trim I have had for the past countless years.

Mine is shoulder length now, with lots of new hair coming in. Do what you feel comfortable with. I know losing your hair will be sad, but look at what you have gained. A whole new life and your hair will grow back. Post pictures if you can! Good luck

i plan to cut mine super short once it starts. i love my hair texture now, it's fine but very curly and i don't want to see it thin out more.

really, i hope that i look so good that nobody really notices my Hair loss and only compliments me on my loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
