Any other August 5th surgeries!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I finally scheduled my date for the sleeve and am super excited but nervous all at the same time. My pre-op diet will start 2 weeks before and I am cutting pop completely the week before that to avoid the hassle and the headaches. Anybody out there interested in being a small support group for each other that all have surgery scheduled on or close to the 5th feel free to PM me!!!

Im scheduled "tentatively" for the 5th. My paperwork was submitted to my insurance company on monday so hopefully ill hear back soon. I dont anticipate any problems though, my surgeons admin team is pretty thorough.

I start my pre-op diet on july 22. My surgeon only requires a high Protein no carb diet for 2 weeks. What kind of pre-op diet are you doing?

My pre-op starts the 22nd as well and it sounds similar! I can do a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and then like a weight watchers or lean cuisine meal for dinner!

Good to know there similar. I was expecting to have to do some type of a liquid diet but my surgeon just wanted high Protein. I'm releived, I get sick without eating meat so I was dreading an all liquid diet.

What kind of post op diet is your surgeon requiring?

I'm also scheduled for August 5th with a 2 week preop liquid diet. I'm supposed to drink 3 Slimfast shakes a day. Just thinking about it makes me ill. I'm at 256 now so we are similar. Ever since I found out my date, I've had trouble sleeping and eating. Nervous but excited.

I'm August 6th, is that close enough? It looks like several of us are at very similar starting weights as well which is kind of neat. :)

Oh that's good at least. Was it hard to get approved with that? Do you have to have good credit? I was thinking about doing that in the future for arm/leg lifts

I cosigned with my mother since our credit is lack luster I didn't wanna take any chances. And its actually super simple you just go to their site and apply and within 5 mins they tell u how much credit u are approved for! I was shocked by how fast it was.

They approved me for 11k and the surgery is 12k (normally 15k but they r running a summer special) so we had to pay 1200 out of pocket -- not too terrible and my payments will be $262 a month

My date is Aug. 4 - self pay and starting weight 255. I have a pretty strict diet...1 week high Protein with mostly shakes and then 2 weeks full liquid diet (hopefully I can do it :-)). I started my high protein diet and down 7lbs...so that is helping my motivation. I just hope I don't get tired of the shakes!! Excited others with a similar date and weight! WE can do this!!

I love the response I am getting from everyone! So nice to not have to go through it alone! I am going to have my blood work done on Tuesday and should be receiving a call from the hospital to schedule my pre-op appointment!

What kind of shakes are yall doin??? My FAVE Protein shake mix falls within the guidelines of whats aloud and they r the Body By Vi shakes! They are SO good!!!! I think it will be easier knowing I already like the shakes and can drink them no problem =)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
