Time Off Work

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if I missed earlier threads on this but my doctor requires two weeks of a liquid diet prior to surgery. He says his patients with desk jobs who can sip liquids all day normally go back to work two weeks after surgery. I have two weeks of time off available. I do have a desk job. Has anyone encountered problems working while on the liquid pre-surgery diet? How have most of you felt two weeks after surgery? Should I consider postponing this until I have more time off accrued?

I didn't take any time off from work during my pre-op liquid diet. And I was back at work on Day 11 post-op. I too have a desk job and as long as you don't have to lift anything heavier than a ream of paper, you shouldn't have any problems. But if I had to get up and out of my chair more than a dozen times a day, it might have been a bit rougher.

I was at the grocery 2 days after the sleeve, and the mall 5 days later, shopped 4-5 hours I easily could have worked, but newly retired. I recommend no lifting as you will be told, for sure!!!! I am 67. Wow, I can tell you the sleeve was 10 times easier than expected. Good luck. Sincerely!

I am on day 12 and feel like I could probably go back soon. I took 3 weeks off because I am a nurse and am on my feet a lot.

Being on your feet a lot would be very hard. Take it slow.

No work missed preop. Like Linda, I was out walking and shopping at two days postop. I am a vet tech and have a very physical, active job where I am on my feet all day, bending, lifting and twisting...10 hour + days with no lunch break. I was back part time at 7 days and full time at two weeks. I just couldn't lift more than 20 pounds until 3 weeks, so we had to scheduled all our large animal stuff and big dog surgeries until after that, I had no problems but had to make sure to plan my day's meals and Snacks and drinks ahead of time. I definitely could have sat at a desk after one week.
