7 year end to my lap band journey

Recommended Posts

7 years go I decided to make the move to get the lap-band. I was able to successfully lose 40 lbs. However, the tool that I thought would help ended up not working with me. I was very good restricted and not getting in enough proper nutrients. A lot of vomiting which in turn plays a head game of great I can eat today get in as much as you can because tomorrow you could be back to starving because nothin will go down. I also had constant reflux and all combined made any social outing hard.

I made the decision to have my band removed. I am one week post op and feel incredibly free!! I started to giggle when I burped as I haven't done that in 7 years! I ate my first scrambled eggs and fresh carrots and apples and a slice of bread without pain!! It is a completely different feeling and I am so happy to have made the choice to have it reversed. I am grateful that I feel full easily still because of the restriction before but I am nervousness because I will be able to eat foods like Pasta and rice with ease now.

I could have had a new surgery at the same time but at this time I am just not ready to alter my body in that way again as it's not reversible.

I wish everyone success with their choice of surgeries and support to those who are in the spot as me.

Glad you are feeling like you made the right choice, it's a good example of why many of us went with a procedure that was reversible. Like CG tells us, just because we can eat what we want, doesn't mean we should. Each choice we make, we have to own it.

Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing with us.

Sorry it didn't work out for you longer. Your over health is the main issue. I do hope you can maintain keeping your weight at a level you feel comfort with. Best wishes to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
