ANITYA 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Hi all I have a consultation at the TLBC on May 4th. I have been thinking about doing the surgery for awhile. I have a billion questons, but will try to limit myself... What can/should I expect for my 1st visit? How long does it take to confirm a surgery date?
GR8 1 Posted April 23, 2007 Your first visit -- most likely will be a picture - weigh in - vital signs - review your health history - listening to heart and checking circulation - and feeling your rib's and gentle probing on your stomach. Perfect time to ask ALL the questions you might have of him. If self-pay you can make the appointment right then, if looking for insurance approval -- that depends on them - some take 2 weeks and some need special documentation. You can start right away with losing weight -- more you lose before surgery the easier surgery will be and the band will help keep it off! Gina

joe7777 1 Posted April 23, 2007 Oh, also, anytya, disregard GR8's comment about insurance....they don't cover it. This is CANADA forum....it gets frustrating to have advice that doesn't apply...but it happens. People are trying to be nice so it's ok.

Rosi 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Anitya: When I had my first consult. We just went over my paper work re meds and general health. I asked questions regarding the Band and actually saw the band on her desk. I went early and found it very helpful to talk to the people that were waiting in the waiting room. Some were newly banded and one 8 months and then a guy came in who had just had it done 2 days before and was just coming in for the after diet that he forgot to get. It was very comforting to see this guy who came in. That he was walking in on his own and then flying home in a few hours was very reasuring. I had my band gone 5 weeks ago and would do it again in a minute. Everyone that I delt with at the clinic so far have been very helpful and freindly. At this first meeting I made my appointment for surgery.which was only 5 weeks from that day. I was very surprised at that, but I had done a lot of reading and had also gone to my family Dr. to discuss and I was sooooo ready. The pre op diet was a bit of a challenge, but the weight came off each day so that made it easier to stick to. I hope this has helped and I haven't rambled too much . Good Luck I will be thinking of you .:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
Heldie 0 Posted April 25, 2007 Rosi, I attended an info session and we also received a detailed explanation of how the surgery would be performed. Then I attended a pre-op consult. I was asked my weight, given the length of time that I had to follow the pre-op diet and I paid my deposit. I had to wait about 4 weeks for the next available slot. I also met with one of the doctors and he asked some more details about my health, medications and what other diets I had tried in the past. I asked a couple of questions. I then attended another seminar which provided info about the post-op diets and care, some nutritional information and we had a tour of the operating room and the recovery rooms. My suggestion is that you write down some questions to ask - I wish I had because I forgot to ask some things that were on my mind because I was nervous and excited!
