So I had a lot of pain yesterday and had to go to the hospital. It turns out I had diverticulitis. The dr. Said I have diverticulosis thru my colon. Does anyone know if this effects me having gastric bypass surgery. I'm like a month out from surgery and just hope this isn't going to deter the dr. From doing the surgery. Anyone with experience with this?

I know about diverticulitis because my mom suffered from it.

These are things you have to stay away from which are seeds so no berries even if they are tiny the seeds. popcorn, nuts, poppy seeds, sesame seeds.

As you know now it is extremely painful if something gets caught in your colon.

What I listed I'm sure they already told you about.

Call your surgeon right away and tell them that you've been diagnosed with this and see what they say.

My guess is there won't be a problem but I'm certainly not a doctor.

Feel better, good luck and let us know what your surgeon tells you.

I have been on the SCD diet for ten years for crohn's before RNY (4 days ago). I was able to heal my colon only by strategizing on specific foods. If you need help getting on the http://www.scdiet.org/%C2'> please message me. It works in stages like post-op: broth, yogurt, etc. After four years, I was able to add potato, and then rice. I have never been able to tolerate raw veg and fruits, but have started o tolerate them peeled and cooked in moderation. You can do this! Don't fall into the trap of medication, because it masks the problem, and you then don't feel the need to heal it from the inside out.

Yah I'm pretty nervous. I have had to jump thru so many hoops and pay alot of money to just get to this point and now its just a matter of waiting for my insurance to approve it. I would be devastated if me having diverticulosis thru my colon would be an issue. I'm gonna stay optimistic tho. I don't think it should be a problem. I'm not sure what triggered it. I've been doing Optifast and eating quite well as I am always trying to lose weight. Thank u for the tips guys, I really appreciate it. Now if I could only get the surgeon to call me back...I've been waiting for him to call me back for the past week and half for something else.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
