Kids, they don't mean to be mean...

Recommended Posts

I was at the gym working out by doing laps at the lap pool and when I got out this little girl (probably 3-4 yo) said look mommy she has a baby in her belly (I assure you I don't) and then her wonderful older sister says, no she's just fat. Definitely won't miss comments like these when the weight is gone.

I totally understand. I was visiting a friend and her daughter was playing video bowling on Wii. We all started to play and you pick the character to represent yourself when you play. They had one that was a fat girl with dark hair. So she said you can be this one because you are fat. I wanted to die considering it was with 4 adults and 3 children.

Flash a year later and I just visited that little girl in the Bay area last month. She did not know who I was. As much as it was so painful I know she did not mean it but man was that a day I will never forget.

As "they" say, kids say the darndest things :)

sticks and stones right, .......but names DO hurt me!! :(

like you said, they don't mean any harm, they don't know there the meaning behind those words

mannnnny years ago my approx 4 year old niece said to me "Aunt Kathy" why do you always wear the same blouse??" (it was a cartoon fiigure on a blouse)

the reason was it was the best one that fit over me that looked "ok"

but i didn't know how to respond - and it made me feel bad/sad :(

so i/us know where you are coming from :(

same time next year, what a difference in your new healthier, happier longer life :)

kathy

congrats

They do say the darnedest thing's, but I don't agree when they are not corrected by an adult. My daughter is 4, we were out one day at the hair cuttery waiting on her father to ger his hair cut when a large older woman walked in my daughter's eyes got wide and she said "Mommy look at how big that lady is!" Of course it was loud enough where the woman heard it so I took my daughter by the hand and told her "That's not nice to point out other people, everyone comes in different shapes and sizes. Daddys big, Mommy and a lot of people you love we are no different then her" she understood. The woman at one point dropped her cain and I made my daughter go pick it up for her and introduce herself, the woman went onto have a conversation about cartoons with my daughter and she realized they had a lot in common after all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
