If you are 6+ Months out from surgery....

Recommended Posts

I know every body is different but can you tell me what is the fewest pounds you had lost after surgery (in a month's time) and how many months out were you from surgery when you lost the fewest pounds in a month?

Starting at 6 months I slowed. I think I was at around 80 pounds. I am now now at 117 pounds at almost a year on July 11th so it has been slower but I am almost to goal.

Thank you for responding. It's just that I have been averaging about 9 to 10 pound loss each month and right now I am 2 weeks into this month and I have only lost one pound.

I'm just trying to see how common this is and need some encouragement that the weight loss will pick up again. I am still very careful about food choices and have been walking more as well.

I'm only two months out but I hit a three week stall after the 3rd week!! I call it my condensing stage! Haha I lost so much so fast my body needs to readjust itself! I wasn't losing pounds but I was shrinking!

At 6 months my loss slowed, at 9 months it stalled, then started at a slow pace. I am nearing my goal and am seeing that in a month if I don't lose I have looser clothes are more muscle. My recent yearly check in with the nutritionist showed I am gaining Water and muscle weight (both very good things they tell me).

I had a 10-12lb a month average until about May. I'm now about 5lb a month average. Hopefully, I can get to goal w/in a year.

I started out averaging about 13-15 pounds per month in the early months. I stalled big time at 7 months and lost only about 4 pounds in a month's time. Then at 8 months it picked back up. If I look just at the most recent 30 days time, I've lost 8 pounds. It's much smaller than the 15/month I lost at first, but at the same time, I've only got about 3 more pounds until goal, so it is bound to slow at some point.

ETA: It's worth mentioning that during that month that I stalled and lost very little, I took a comparison pic in my workout pants and sports bra and compared it to the month before, and I could definitely tell a difference. So while I didn't lose a lot that month, I was consistent in eating and exercise and I could tell a difference in my body between the 2. Maybe I can find the pics to add....let me see.....

Anyway, my point is that even if you have a smaller month number-wise on the scale, other good things could be going on too like losing inches or gaining muscle definition. Here are the pics one (the first) was from May, one (the second) from June....Only 4 pounds difference, but looking better in my opinion.

So numbers aren't always the best indicator of progress

I'm 6 1/2 months out. Between weeks 6 and 10 I gained 3 pounds, so I'd say that's the least amount I ever "lost" in a month :P. But I still reached my surgeon's goal by 5 1/2 months and I've lost an additional 8 pounds in the month since reaching goal.

I am 2.5 years out and at goal. About month 7 my losses slowed to a crawl... like I dropped to losing 2-3# a month and I still had a long ways to goal. Too many carbs.... I eliminated Protein bars and changed my workout to high intensity and I got back on track.. losing more like 8-10 a month to get to goal.

I lost 150 over 14 months to get to goal...lost another 18 after getting to goal.

I'm 6.5 months out and have lost about 131 pounds with 8 pounds left to goal. I noticed a slow-down in my weight loss at about 5.5 months but I'm fine with that. Just happy that I'm still moving in the right direction .

Along the way I've continued to log and monitor all food to ensure proper nutrition and calories. I've carefully increased calories and carbs proportionate to increases in exercise.

Months 6,7, and 8 I have averaged 5-7 pounds loss each month. Things are moving tho and inches are dropping still tho. Get your tape measure ready for that part of the journey...it's a better gage for progress versus the scale.

I am at my goal of 155. At this point, 9 months post op, I am losing approx 1 lb a week; 4-5 per month. I have no clue when this stop. I am so grateful.

Thank you for the reassurance that this is common. I actually lost another pound yesterday so I'm hoping the scale continues to move in the downward direction.

2 weeks ago was 6 months since surgery and I have lost 90 pounds, so I'm very happy about that and just looking forward to losing more. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
