I had my surgery Friday, I woke up to like 4 people patting me and calling my name. Apparently I didn't wake up how I should have and I was awake when they pulled the tube out of my throat. I was in extreme pain. My head hurt, my throat and omg my laparoscopic cuts hurt. I instantly regretted having the surgery for the first day.

Just so you know I'm strong, I had my kids with no epidural, I had an open abdominal surgery to remove my ovary, Fallopian tube and a huge mass.... But this hurts way more than expected. My whole body aches. My legs hurt when I walk, my neck and back hurt.

My throat hurts the worst, I don't know if they reintubated me, or what. I remember waking up, everyone yelling my name and I was crying about my headache. I had the headache prior to surgery....it was a bad one. I ended up staying the night. I wish I had stayed another, for the pain meds. All I have are low dose hydrocodone. But I'm alive, and hopefully healing (sure doesn't feel like it) and for that, I'm truly thankful. Thanks for listening, sorry it wasn't more happiness. I'm in sad shape :(

So sorry you are in so much pain and feeling so bad. It does get better every day, so keep that in mind that the worst part is over. Walking, drinking Water, ice packs and the heating pad are all things that helped me get past the first few days. I really had no interest in any food and sf Popsicles made me gag at first. Water, lite apple juice and small amount of Protein Drinks is what I could keep down. If you not allowed Protein drinks try nectar. It is a clear thin Protein Drink. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon.

1st week is the worst...It does get better...hang in there, relax, walk once an hour (its painful, but makes the pain go away faster), put the heating pad on..its hardest the first few days. I sucked on hard candy for the throat...took gas X, pain meds, walked, and applied heat to the stomach and sholder...I slept in the recliner for 1 week. Focusing on a good show took my mind off of the pain for a bit. You will make it :-)

So sorry you've had a bad time! Sounds like that was a doozy of a reaction to the anesthesia. Be sure to find out and note what they used so if you ever have to have surgery again they have a different cocktail for you. I loved my Popsicles post surgery -- maybe that would feel good on your throat, or warm tea. Try to move all you can and walk around so you don't end up with gas pains on top of the other. I agree ice can help with that incisional pain and some people like a heating pad for comfort. Just know you'll be feeling lots better shortly. Sending best wishes your way!

It was way worse than I expected and I'm not sure why. Maybe they took away pain meds to help me wake up? But omg it was awful. The pain pump is wonderful :) I'm going to call and get more info. Every other operation, it seemed waking up was peaceful.

Mine wasn't peaceful either...my own moaning from pain woke me up. I was pretty out of it, though...gotta love morphine!

Hugs to you. Just take things very slowly and one day at a time. Rest as much as you can but try and walk as well. It helps to eleviate the gas pain. Congratulations on being banded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
