Lisa H 0 Posted April 22, 2007 I am waiting to see if my ins. will pay for my banding. Dr Szomstein in Weston Florida at the Cleveland Clinic is my Dr. I'm very excited, but have two big questions for those of you who have already been banded. I am 100 pounds overweight. I've heard that I should only expect to lose about 50% of that with banding-Is that true? Also I've heard that with banding, many people feel full but hungry at the same time-Is that true? malouse 0 Posted April 23, 2007 I think the 50% weight loss is 'typical' and certainly if you stick to the food limits very well and add exercise you'll lose more. As with most things, the more effort you put into it, the more likely your results will be better than most. No matter what diet I've been on, I find I struggle more with the mental addiction than food addiction. I am concerned that when/if I get banded, that though my stomach won't accept more food that my mind will still be screaming at me to eat, eat, eat. I have read in several medical publications that the surgery plays tricks on the mind/nervous system such that those who think a lot about food tend to lose those thoughts. Hey if they could somehow do that mental re-wiring w/o surgery, that'd be perfect! Deborah

areellady 1 Posted April 23, 2007 My doctor explained the weight loss to me this way. Give yourself three years time to get the weight off. The first year expect about a 50 percent weight loss. The next two years slowly but surely the rest will come off. I am sure there are many exceptions to this scenerio, but I was happy with that. It has taken me umpteen years to pile on this weight, I can wait for three to have it off, plus I think slower IS better. Maybe not as much loose skin? That is another thing I think about!! Good Luck!! Deanna
